Does your car still run after air back recall?

I am hoping to hear from people who have aftermarket parts and a tune to find out if your car still ran right after they replaced your airbag. Please respond only if you have had the recall done by a dealer, and your car requires a tune to run properly. I have been following the other thread about the airbag, and there are a few posts about this, but I am hoping to get a more specific thread going. I'm scared of killing my family with shrapnel and scared of having to hire a flatbed to get my car to iveytune.

Wait how does replacing an airbag affect your tune?

Hopefully it doesn't, but one guy said his wouldn't start afterward, so I'm hoping to hear from those who did it without any issues. Of coarse I am going to tape notes everywhere in the car asking them not to reflash the ecu. One member said they might have to reset the srs through the obdii port.

As a tech, and having done hundreds of these recalls already, your car will be just like it was before the recall.

The only issue you're likely to see is your fuel trims relearning. And that's only if the tech disconnects the battery like the recall directs them to.

+1. I just had my air bag replaced at the dealership. My car is tuned and it runs fine. You'll be ok. Just be sure to tell them not to touch the ECU because there is another older recall which requires an ECU reflash. Tell them not to perform that recall. There was an Evo IX that same day that was in for the ECU reflash recall. The tech tried to upload the updated map and failed. That car now won't start.

Good information guys. Anyone here in NJ/PA area have a successful airbag replacement? If so, which dealer?
My car left the dealer in 06 and has never been back so I don't know who to trust.

I believe what the OP is talking about is the ECU update to help not foul the cat which was a recall.

From the op post.

They wanted to know about the air bag recall.

I understand that. I dug around the forums and found the "Customer Satisfaction Campaign" was for 2006 models to update the ECM. If they were to do this open issue, while doing your inflator recall fix, your tuned car would have a stock map on it and thus potentially not run.

I've used Kelly MITSUBISHI in the Lehigh valley area for timing belt replacements in the past. Aside from ****ty rentals and the usual high dealer prices they've seen good. Everything they told me needed fixing did actual need fixing/replacing.

I'm actually scheduled to get my airbag replaced there Monday. They did ask if there were modifications because they have to take the dash apart so they said labor for removing anything not factory to do the recall wouldn't be covered.

I can let you know how it goes

From: Driving ten under in the passing lane, right turn signal on at all times.
Did the recall yesterday. Runs OK so far.

I did tell the service folks that under no circumstances were they to touch the tune. I even wrote on the service ticket in big bold letters "DO NOT TOUCH TUNE!!"

Then I underlined.

The dealership promised not to touch the tune. I pick up my car, asked if they touched the tune. Said that they did not.

On Sunday I find whether they told the truth.

I had it done about 3 weeks ago at Fred Bean in Doylestown. I had them note not to flash the ecu on the service ticket, and I taped a note to the dashboard and the OBDII port. Car ran fine when I got it back, and my aftermarket boost gauge still worked. Aside from the trim ring on my aftermarket cd player being upside down, I thought everything was fine until I drove at night for the first time last night. None of my HVAC lights work I'm not sure if I want to call the dealer or figure it out myself, because they are 45 minutes away. Could they have forgotten to plug them in, and how hard is it to figure this out. I doubt all 3 bulbs want bad at the same time.
