How do you test a boost gauge for accuracy?

Excuse me for my ignorance but I was wondering if there was a way to test my boost gauge for accuracy?

When I was on the Dynapak Dyno Saturday, the dyno was reading 23psi. My gauge reads 21psi. Is there another way I can test the gauge's accuarcy out?

hook it up to an air compressor with a calibrated gauge, and make sure there are no leaks, you should read the same thing on the boost gauge

Don't have a compressor? Go to walmart and buy a bicycle pump with a mechanical gauge on it, cut off the tip that hooks up to the tire and hook it up to your gauge.

wow its off by 2 psi? do you by chance have autometer? i heard they are very inaccurate and complete waste of money when it comes to boost gauges

You are correct sir

I am hoping a compressor test or some other test proves it is accurate

I have the stock Mitsu gauges and an Autometer Lunar series boost and they are perfectly in synch with eachother. I think the Autometer is fine for the price and reads nicely.

The only accurate way to do this is to buy/borrow a very expensive pressure tester that labs use. That is the way I found out that my DEFI is 1.5 psi off. Be careful with using bicycle pumps and air compressor gauges. They usually have an accuracy of 2-3% of full scale.

It really is hard... I would trust the Dyno more than I would Autometer boost gauges. Maybe go with better gauges? Or just add/subtract in your head. OR maybe, This is a big maybe, You could open the gauge and see if you can soemhow adjust it so that it would be on the correct boost, maybe bend the needle. I wouldn't suggest it unless you were gonna toss it anyway.

Actually the Autometer gauges ARE Accurate if you don't buy the cheap ones.. however because it uses that tiny capillary tubing, its easy to kink and that will cause it to be innacurate.. I've been using autometer gauges for almost 20 years now and the only ones I use are the Sport-Comp, or Pro-Comp (and its derivatives, NOT the lunar, NOT the Carbon, etc.. those are all based on the auto-gage series gauge).. Everything else is good quality, but the cheap ones are intended for the average street car user, and may not be as accurate.
