BTW, Paul, have you heard anything more about the possibility of Japan abandoning the "280PS agreement"?

There's rumors yes..but only increase of 20ps....I thought they would change before the release of the 350z or even the EVO VIII...but no dice...maybe that's why NISSAN is waiting to release the new GTR for the US and Japan...keep your fingers crossed

Interesting thread. The comments on raising HP were confusing.
From my experience MMC limited HP both with the relatively restrictive exhaust and the ECU. Fitting a less restrictive exhaust brought immediate and rewarding gains.
The next hurdle I encountered was fuel cut. When the ECU sees too much air going into the engine, it switches off the injectors in a most dramatic way. This prompted me to invest in a programmable ECU that I think was my best tuning purchase to date. With careful tuning I have been running 23 PSI of boost for two years on the stock engine with no motor related issues.
Regarding Mitsubishis standing in WRC I find Group N or Production class much more pertinent. The vehicles contending at this level have more in common with the cars us mere mortals will drive. Take a look at Group N statistics the numbers suggest that the Evo is a rather good car.
