Well. I think the tranny is toast...Ideas?

So i was driving home today and was having a spirited drive. I go through gears 1-3 just fine and when i went into 4 i noticed it felt a little weird. After i felt it do that i tried putting in neutral and it seemed to stay in 3rd. I cruised it home slowly and when i got into my driveway i slipped into 2nd and then 1st and i felt a little relief. Went inside, didnt feel comfortable with the car sitting there not know wtf just happened so i let it cool down and then went to check on it. Shifter cables are still connected so they didnt pop off. Go to take it for a quick spin to see the damage. Reverse was picky to get into, took off 1,2,3 go for fourth and same thing. Except now 1,2,4,5, and R are impossible to get into while the car is on.
I can take off in third so i know its not a clutch problem. I can shut the car off, put it in 1st and turn in on, try to take off and the car wont move. Acts like the ebrake is on...

So yeah tell me what yall think?

Shep took about 7 weeks to build my transfer case and transmission. The only regret I have is not buying cores to send in as my evo is my daily. But if it is not your daily then no sweat. They did an excellent job with my tranny and transfer case.

So when you shut the car off, place into 1st, start it and try taking off does the tranny engage or is the engine free to spin? Free to spin could be the shifter giving you issues, engaging then I'd assume your tranny is toast
just something to think about.

Engine does not spin freely, I'm thinking she's a gonner. I've posted in the forums classifieds for a gently used tranny. Rebuild plus fixing my busted transmission is way out of my range. If anyone has got one pm me!

Time for a new clutch or clutch pedal adjustment, could be why it goes into gear off, but not while it's on. The 1st gear issue is odd though. They're could be a few things wrong that are going on.

Car has about 170k onthe chassis. I put a new Comp Clutch 3 weeks ago and the car drove great. So I dont think its a clutch issue. Ill mess the adjustment though just to be sure. And i was out in the car the other night and felt for gears with the shifter while the car was off. 3-4 is really sloppy, 5th and R is impossible to get into and 1 and 2 need "coaxing" to get into. Im 99.98 percent sure the the ol' five speed is shot. Just found a replacement, as soon as i get in it ill update and let ya know what was what.

Your gonna need to pull the trans could be clutch problem or trans. Being that you just did a new clutch I would start there.

I'd say start with pulling box off and checking the clutch out. First get someone to help and check the travel at the slave.

don't be so quick to jump to conclusion...adjust you clutch...if that doesn't do it take off the tranny and inspect the clutch...I though my tranny was toast because 3 and 4 were non existent...opened it up and it turned out to be a pin on one of the shift forks was backing out...hammered pin back in and safety wires it and walla...shifts like butter ...don't be afraid to take apart stuff yourself...!!
