Problems stripping a IX Valve cover?

I want to strip the powdercoat from my IX Valve cover using aircraft stripper. Problem is the shop that powdercoated back in 2007 said that he couldn't strip it once it's done. The owner mentioned the fact that it was magnesium and he couldn't strip it like an VIII cover without ruining it. Any truth to this? Any experience?

if the evo 9 had a magnesium valve cover, then that is news to me.

Well I can say that I've never seen a IX with AN fittings welded to it for the same reason.

not that this is evidence, but they cost about the same everywhere i have checked. Either way i think you would still be able to strip it, perhaps with different methods though.

I remember reading that the IX valve cover is magnesium.

My ix valve cover says MG(periodic symbol for mag) within a little recycling arrow sign. I assumed it was magnesium based on that. I am away from the car so I can't share a pic. Check your valve cover for the same marking.
