Crank position sensor
Okay guys so I had a check engine light come on in my Evo 8 for a crank position sensor. Evo wouldn't start at all so I started with the basics swapped my starter..it was bad anyway..then got around to replacing the crank position sensor..it ran fine for a week...and then light came back on and its a paper weight again...any ideas? I'm leaning towards the connection of the sensor to the harness or possibly something else? Please help my Evo has been down for a month.
check for crank walk. Crank walk will continually kill sensors, and previous iterations of the 4g63 had some serious problems with crank walk. Its not to common for evos but it still happens.

It won't make any sounds as far as starter or anything the sensor is keeping it from starting it isn't an air fuel situation. How do I check for crank walk?

Battery is fine..new starter...it has to do with the crank position sensor...that's the code I am getting...I had it before replaced the sensor and it started and ran fine. Then a week later same code..same symptoms..will not crank start nothing so its all tied to that sensor nothing with the air fuel battery or starter.
If the crank sensor is not working you're not getting spark or fuel. Is it connected? Have you taken off the lower timing belt cover and checked that it is still intact? Put a volt meter to it and see what it's putting out while cranking? Might be a dead sensor
I just want to make sure we are on the same page. You're talking about the crank angle sensor? Not the camshaft position sensor?

You can watch the crank while someone else pushes in the clutch and see if it moves, or just get a long screwdriver or prybar and try and move it. Google search DSM crankwalk and you will find tons of info on the problem, how to diagnose it, and what it takes to fix it.

It is the crank angle sensor that is coming up. It is brand new I just put it in. i will get a multimeter on it see if thats the issue. and i will youtube it to try and see if i can find something.
I've gone thru 3 crank sensors after my balancer belt broke the original one. the first one was low and touching the timing plate. that sensor died after 30miles. I put a new one with a washer/spacer. that was too high, also touching the timing plate, that died just warming/revving up the car. I put another one, this time I smashed the washer spacer a bit. so far so good on the 3rd CPS. I haven't race the car though
