IACV Replacing Question
IACV Replacing Question
I've read countless threads on the subject and still trying to figure out 100%.
I need to replace my IACV - I've seen numerous different ones people say we can throw in our Evos. I have an 03 MR
is there a list of compatible IACs?
I've seen different part #'s, different manufacturers, Amazon ones etc.
With all these options I want to make sure I spend the least amount of money while I still get one that works well. The amount of $ I've been dumping in this baby for the past few months I could use a break on my last part being cheap before getting her tuned.
Please and thanks!

http://m.ebay.com/itm/Idle-Air-Control-Valve-AC571-FOR-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-Galant-Lancer-Evo-2-4L-2-0L-/171972034275?nav=SEARCHI personally have this for almost 3 years.i don't see why I should pay $300 for OEM part.
I went through two purported direct replacements. Then settled on OEM. No regrets. The OEM works so much better, and you don't have to waste time and money trying knock offs out. I'm sure others have had success with the knock offs, but I'm a fan of buying the right product. Sometimes it's costs more, but that's just the way it is. I like knowing my car has a quality part on it.
I was fully prepared to buy OEM but when I saw $300 and $20 on some $90 on others etc. Thats a major difference if it will work well.
Someone told me there was an OEM chrysler one that worked or something? I ordered the one suggested above for $18 for now. At that price idc about returning or the lost cost. Just got something en route as I believe this is my last step before I finally tune.

I went through this and posted the same question:

My IACV was bad at start up of my built motor. I think for the short term it was good to get my evo idling again for $20. For the long term, my shop recommended against using an ebay IACV. I am keeping it as back up and got a used evo 9 IACV with 50K miles. I hope it lasts awhile!
Good luck!

The first Mitsubishi I owned was a 1992 DSM turbo AWD purchased new. The OEM valve cover gasket on that car started leaking almost immediately and by 15K miles I could no longer tighten the fasteners for fear of cracking the valve cover and the gasket had to be replaced.
The above story is applicable many other parts on the engine and many other parts on that car. The valve cover gasket on my 2003 Evolution looks identical to the 1992 gasket but has never leaked. So while it looks like the same part it obviously is not the same.
For Mitsubishi to go from the quality of the 1992 parts to the quality of the 2003 parts is remarkable in my opinion. A great effort had to have been made by the builder to upgrade quality.
So, anyway, quality parts will cost more money.

the amount of money mitsubishi is charging for this part is insane. I would either get a known working used one if you want OEM or go with a cheaper aftermarket one. Either of which you can replace many times over before equaling the cost of a new OEM. If your about to get tuned then its even less of a problem because the tuner can adjust for any differences an aftermarket unit might have vs a stocker.
