I am not sure the tuning history of my Evo IX. The previous owner said it had a tune but didn't specify any details. I have noticed if I go WOT in 5th gear starting at about 30-40mph the SES light will flash a few times. It doesn't stay on after this, just 2-3 flashes. Does the stock ECU have a feature that flashes the SES light due to knock or some high load value? I know some of the custom tunes have this feature but until I pull my ECU program I won't know what it's got. Curious if the OEM ECU has any feature that would do this.

Yes, tephra has this option.

 

Yes, I know about Tephra, was wondering if the factory ECU has anything like that standard. I supposed someone may have done the Tephra mod but I don't think so. It still had a check engine light for a missing cat which Tephra eliminates. That is why I assume it doesn't have that ECU programming.

 

AFAIK, the factory ECU doesn't have that feature. Tephra V7 does, so there's a good chance Tephra V7 ROM has been flashed to your ECU.

 

30-40mph is 2nd and 3rd gear territory, this isn't a V8 haha. But as others have said, it is a knock indicator feature from a tephra rom.

 

Definitely should NOT be going WOT in 5th gear at such low speed. That putts way too much strain on the motor.

 

Got a Tactrix cable and uploaded my ROM. It's not the Tephra so still not sure about the flashing SES. Guess it'll remain a mystery for now. I don't see any parameters listed for that feature in EvoFlash but I suppose if the tuner customized his XML file to add that I wouldn't be able to see it without the correct XML.

 

Get your tune looked at. That flashing light is usually because of knock. Going WOT at 30-40 mph in 5th is ridiculous!

 

It's not ridiculous if done over and over is just assures you of getting into a built engine much faster !! lol

 

yeah, you are seeing knock. flashing means knock, meaning get your heavy lead foot off the gas pedal. wot in 5th low rpm=very very unhappy rods.

You have a Tephra V5.10 ROM. Your knock light settings are to flash slow at 5 counts, flash fast at 10 counts.

You are putting a ridiculous load on your motor if you go WOT in 5th gear at 30 mph while going extremely slow at the same time. Since you should not be doing this and there is no benefit to doing so if this is the only problem you're having and the car drives normally with no flashing otherwise I would just not go WOT in 5th unless your going 60 mph+

Regardless of which Rom it is the tune is saying "Hey please stop going WOT in 5th at such low speeds." It's a warning.
