CARB Legal Exhaust
I live in Southern California and know that the Evo is both a cop magnet and that the cops hand out modified exhaust tickets like they're going out of style. I will hopefully (finally) get my BBY Evo 8 within a month and want to create around 350WHP. It is going to be my daily driver. In order to achieve this HP level I want to run a turbo back exhaust, but I dont need to be in court all the time defending myself because of the nature of our law enforcement. Are there any exhausts out there with CARB exemption? As I understand a cop cannont give you a ticket for any part on your car if it is CARB exempt and you carry the paperwork for it with you (please correct me if I am wrong). Any and all info/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx guys

All exhausts in Cali are now CARB exempt due to some hard work by SEMA. The only consideration to worry about now is that the exhaust is less than 95 dBa (RMR meets this reqm't.). Here's a link to check out:

I am glad to hear that SEMA actually managed to affect the CHP's ways. I really want to get Buchurs 3in turbo back, due to the price and perfromance. Does anyone know if this system w/ high flow cat meets the 95Db limit? Maybe a list of exhaust that do would be sweet.
thanx again

All cat back exhausts are CARB (California Air Recourse Board) exempt. Changing the exhaust behind the cat does no effect emissions. The cop problem you are having is from noise. California has noise laws that allow the import hating cops to write you a ticket if they think the big tip makes you a street racer. Then it is up to you to take time off work and fight that it is actually legal. I have been pulled over in stock EVOs because of the size of the stock tip and been hassled. On my 105 db Ducati i get a thumbs up from a cop. Go figure.
As far as I know GReddy is the only company to jump through all the hoops with actual sound testing and certification. But cops have guns and can and will do what they want. Import hating cops will often say "I dont care what papers you gots there boy, tell it to the judge" and still write you up.

RMR has jumped through the same hoops, too, per DOT and CHP regs. I have personally watched Rhys taking dB meter readings in their parking lot. Unfortunately it isn't helping me here in VA where the law is completely subjective (ie no specific dB limit).
