Stealth Mods

Hi: New California 2011 EVO X MR owner here who wants to know what is your recommendations for stealth mods? I've lived in Cali now for 16 years. Been pulled over many times in my former VIP Lexus GS 400, younger days and EFU attitude . Fix it tickets galore, pal you know why I pulled you over?...missing front plate, also you need to take off the front window tint, what is that air sucking noise coming from your car?, exhaust is kinda loud buddy... yeah the usual. So now I've changed directions (no VIP car anymore) have the Evo Rocket ship X and I want to do some light mods but I'm a humble old man now and tired of hassle by the Sherriff and CHP dudes who are young enough to be my sons... All respect though, I know they are upholding the law and vehicle code and it is a "privilege" not a right to drive here . Also always a pain to smog as one has to disassemble everything, but I don't mind, just don't want the fix it ticket. And there are no CARB intakes for the 2011 EVO yet.

So which if any CAI, CBE, UICP, LICP, EBC, FMIC, Tune? vs. bigger turbo, injectors, fuel pump and tune? or just be happy with stock? Also, I'm okay leaving the CAT on, but wonder if HFC will get ticketed? Thanks: Young at heart but

the FP series turbos, since they are stock frame will be the best bet for power and stealth. 9/10 people cant tell by looking at the turbo that its a bigger then stock one. However the sound is abit different with the surge ports. Sounds like a big rig truck.

I know Cali laws are **** so im not going to comment on most the stuff you are asking about since i dont know if they are legal. For the FMIC, go with ETS 3.5 or 4" heres the different between my stock one and ETS....

stock

ETS 4"

ETS 4"

LICP isnt really needed unless you want A. all the power you can get out of a bigger turbo (the pipe wont add any power but will give you a piece of mind it wont expand or pop off during high boost) or B. want the TiAL QR bov the AMS kit offers.

If I were to move back to SoCal, I would do:

--Injen (with CARB# sticker) intake or AEM intake
--ETS Upper
--ETS FMIC (black) <-- I use this now and like it
--ETS LICP
--HFC (probably milspec or ETS)
-- I love my GReddy Ti-C exhaust because it isn't attention catching loud, but it's single exit and is visibly noticeable. If I went to a dual exhaust, I'd go ETS V2 Quiet.

Like wise this week I'm putting bronze wheels on, but if I was living back in Orange County I'd probably go with a silver or hyper-black, nothing colored. I would consider ditching my GSR spoiler too.

Here's a pic of my X with the black ETS FMIC

Snakes: Yeah, that is kinda what I figured. To stay stealth the turbo would be unnoticeable, also your IC looks almost stock... as long as I guess you don't get the logo on the front.

So why the FP Red and not Green or Black Turbo in your particular set up?
1100 cc injectors vs. 1000 cc injectors?
Running 91 octane?
ETS instead of AMS IC?
Pro tune?
Thanks for all the info, I'm trying to get some reasonable ideas before unloading some major dough.

Cool, thanks. I don't think there are any CARB approved intakes for the 2011 Injen intake just for the the 2008... I may be mistaken?

I was in Afghanistan when the new Ball Bearing FP Turbos came out. I wasnt planning on building the block quite yet, so i went with the FP Red. Gives me more power then green but with i reliable tune, wouldnt blow the engine on stock internals. Once built i could retune and get more power out of it. However, if you look through my threads, you will see my tuner screwed up and my engine blew.

I went with FIC 1100cc injectors for two reasons. 1. went bigger incase i go bigger turbo down the road, that way i wont have to buy new injectors. 2. they were on sale for x-mas so i got a good deal on them.

I'm running 94 octane.

I went with ETS IC because AMS 3.5" is like 750+shipping, where as ETS's 4" was only 700+ shipping. Why not go bigger for cheaper? On top of that, ETS has put out much info on their IC's.

So now im waiting to send my engine to speed circuit to get rebuilt and then find another tuner.

ETS V2 Quiet looks very similar to stock.

** We also have a 1 piece mandrel bent mid section now, so no cut and welds, which is a dead give away.

UICP is hard to tell the difference.

You may also look at an AEM intake with airbox that should be carb legal in CA.

Thanks!

Michael

Come out to California and that is what Five - O will tell you when you start arguing about your fix it ticket... just before they cuff you and throw you in the back of their cruiser for refusing to "pop the hood" So if you can't beat em' Stealth them... and stay environmentally friendly is my thinking.

Welcome to the Golden State. Don't forget to register your vehicle, you have like 30 days to do so or something like that. You will need to pass our state Smog Inspection so don't do any mods until that is done. Its visual and sniffer. And Lets see how this thread pans out. Cheers

Is your X a daily driver? Wow 94 octane... you live in Canada is that available there at the pump or just at the track? I'm basically relegated to California 91 octane as this is my daily driver.
