Emissions IL - Race/show car exempt

I was looking over the the EPA laws in IL. I saw there is a race car/ show car exemption law. I mainly only track the car, however, I do take it out on a cruise here and there.

I'm sort of leaning towards the race exemption because it's easier to get.

Sounds simple enough, but my concern is they may report this to my insurance or not allow me to license the car at all. Has anyone done the race exemption and what are the pros and cons of doing so?

Or

Should I call my insurance and ask them to place my car as a show car??

Any advice is welcome.

EPA laws in IL are pretty lax...why not just do the force patch and call it a day? There's no visual inspection of any sort.

Yea just set everything to pass. Thats a lot easier than going through all that race car stuff. I have no emissions components what so ever besides a gas cap and pass every time.

A couple years ago i went through this as well. Got the car registered as a race car/show car. Needed to pass emissions and obviously couldnt. Got the form, sent it in with pictures of the car and stuff and passed right away. I believe if i remember correctly its good for 2 years then you have to do it again. I have to re do mine in September
