Financing difficulties
I am insured through American Collectors Insurance. I had to submit pictures, receipts and a description of the car. Then I had a phone interview. But it was definitely worth jumping through the hoops, I pay half what I would pay USAA, and know exactly what the car is in$ured for.
I'm sure they noted the mileage on the date it became insured., and they will ask for the mileage if you ever make a claim. If you put too many miles on it, they will deny your claim and will likely drop your policy. They don't want to updates to make sure you're adhering to the mileage limits, they would have to cancel your policy as soon as you went over mileage. They would rather take your money right up until they deny a claim because you're over mileage.
It would be difficult, or impossible, to tell which policy term you went over the mileage limit. But I get your point. I don't drive my evo anywhere near 5K miles per year, so now worries for me there.
If you're doing 5-6k a year, it would be hard to prove like you said. If you're a little over mileage at 18 months, who is to say you wouldn't have just parked it the rest of the year to keep in with in the limit...
They don't care about that, they just look at your total mileage at the time of the claim. If it's under, you are good. But if not, you are assed out.
Ok, so I have not posted back in this thread for the past couple weeks, but here is my update:
- Approved through PenFed for $23,100 at 2.99% with an Equifax (lowest of the 3 bureaus?) score of 721 and no bads. (my credit score from Cap1 and Discover says somewhere around 752 to put that into perspective for others). I will be paying ~$6k cash and then a trade in via auction. I also elected to get GAP coverage from Pendfed with like a $50k limit for $399 on top of my loan value. With no balloon payment, I will be paying ~$430/month. Full coverage insurance comes in just a little under $1k/year with a speeding ticket and wreckless op still on my record. Both of which were 2+ years ago
(oh and I am 26 for those wondering/who may find this thread via searching)
- Getting that RR Evo 9 in Florida that I originally was looking at for $31k.
-----Honestly, the prices just keep rising. Most (NOT ALL) 9's that I am finding under $27k are either over 100k miles, rebuilt title, heavily modded, or a turd. Again, MOST - I am sure there are some exceptions out there.
- I fly down Thurs 8/18 and will check the Evo out and if it everything the seller says it is, will be taking possession the afternoon of Friday 8/19! I am so damn excited!
Anyways, bottom line:
- go with PenFed (if you have decent credit)
- I am stupid excited and feel like a 6 year old on Christmas Eve
A couple of teasers:
EDIT: I would also like to clarify that I am not the OP for this thread. I did, however, have the same questions as the OP and essentially grew this thread from page 2 (no, I am not gloating or anything, I am just pleased that a wealth of info was brought into this thread for those who may stumble upon it while searching in the future).
To the OP, I know you were/are (?) searching for a RR as well. I wish you the best of luck!

Nice and congrats! That's awesome, dude. So $29-30k? Ouch, man... but the mileage is really good. If a low-mileage Evo is what you REALLY want, then paying extra isn't too big of a deal.
For comparison, had I sold my Evo, I would have been looking at a $415 payment on a '16 Ford RS.
I'd honestly rather have another IX to daily LOL

23,750 @3.60% APR was the most I was able to get from everywhere I look, and the process was pretty painful, few banks/credit unions are willing to put out that kind of money for a 10yr old car. The low mileage built EvoIX i just picked up was 31k, so I had to cover the rest.
I guess the other option would be to take out the rest in a personal loan....
As long as the term is really short the interest shouldn't be bad.
