So i have a very small leak on my valve cover gasket and figured it would be a good time to pull the cover and paint it i got a new valve cover gasket spark plug gasket. But can't seem to find where i put the RTV sealant when doing the job i know on the 4 corners but where else...
Mind you all threads i find on it say to put on all 4 corners and where ever else it is needed but where else is it needed thanks for the help

Anyone I can't really find any instructions on this I know the half moons get it and the 4 corners I guess but where else ?

^^^That covers it for RTV location. Most important is the quality of the gasket. Mitsubishi has perfected the valve cover gasket. At 110K my valve cover has never been off and the gasket area remains dry. Can you get an after market gasket of the same quality? Dunno.

Does it really matter what kind of rtv sealant to use grey black or orange I think I have some orange laying around in my tool box is that sufficient?

Im no sealant expert, but make sure the color designation matches the temp & application areas noted on the tube

Be a pisser to have the sealant not survive & have to re-do

EDIT: Found this on line if it helps. Its the Permatex equivalent to the Mitsu MD970389

ive always just applied it to the half moon areas. Never to to the front and back...
never had an issue.

Also, ive always used Hondabond HT.
(from my motorcycle days).
best stuff ever.

Dang homeboy that looks niiiiiiice.I haven't seen white before. Just so you know orange is for mostly diffs,and manual transmissions, I use black or gray for what you did and oil pans etc.... Hondabond is very good also. Good job.

Ya i think it looms pretty good I have 4 coats of white 2 coats of clear both high heat engine enamel I also got the ultra black rated to 500 degrees rtv figured that would be enough my auto parts store didn't have the hondabond stuff they looked at me weird when I asked them lol

Remember to bolt up the valve cover properly, as per Permatex's instructions. Step 3 here is what people tend to skip:

1. Apply a continuous, even bead of silicone to one surface, surrounding all bolt holes. Assemble parts immediately while silicone is still wet.
2. Finger tighten until material begins to squeeze out around flange.
3. Allow to dry for one hour then retighten 1/4 to 1/2 turn (or to torque specs). Silicone will skin over in one hour and fully cure in 24 hours under normal conditions. Allow more time for cold or very dry conditions.

Ya it's all back together no leaks of any kind after an hour I just keep checking it daily to make sure but I'm sure I'm just OCD about this stuff lol
