Strange scratching/rattling sound coming from engine
I heard this sound first like 1 week ago. I assumed it was just a loose bolt rattling. I tried to pinpoint it but no luck. Anyways I searched for the sound again today and it's coming from the passenger side by the serpentine belt/timing belt. It's got more of a scratch sound to it, as if either there's something in the way of one of the belts or like something is having trouble spinning. Any ideas? The idea of a bad water pump arose but I'm not getting any codes, overheating issues, etc. So I don't know what it could be. Any help? Will post a video if necessary
These reports are tough to diagnose in a forum setting. But, I would put the front end on jack stands & pull the RF wheel.
Maybe pull the timing belt cover & start the motor & listen for the noted sound
A water pump going bad will not throw a code. Look for any water weeping from the bottom of the water pump
Report your findings when complete
