Engine Removal Questions

So I will be pulling a motor for the first time without a lift on an Evo 5. Everytime I've had to pull an Evo motor I have had access to a lift, this time I will just be in a garage with jackstands. So normally I would bring the engine out from the bottom, but due to space constraints I will need to do this from the top instead. Any advice on how to do this? Should I leave the xcase in the car? Will I need to unbolt the axles? Is it possible to pull the motor and leave the trans in the car, or should I pull the motor with trans?

Thanks for any help. Did a few searches and couldn't find any guides, and most folks seem to drop it from the bottom.
