What got you into Evos?
I had no idea about EVO or high performance cars. I go for cars with the looks and some power. My first choice was the 350Z and was going to get it, but the nissan dealer gave me crap so I turn to mitsu. I had no idea why I chose the EVO, but I'm glad I did. My brother got a track Z, and I get to drive it whenever I want. As for the Z, I think it's a nice car and has alot of looks factor to it, but as for the fun factor of driving, it can't hold a candle up to the EVO. After driving the EVO for a while, I can't stand driving anything else. THe ironic thing is that I dont know much about the EVO, until I got it. Just 2 weeks after I got it, I started to search for more infos and start reading about it in this forum. Then I saw initial D. Then I go back to GT3. I played GT3 before, but I never noticed about the EVO. I love the skyline and the supra, but dont know jack **** about the EVO. Anyways, I guess it's fate...
Wow, I'm surprised by the answers. I have played a TON of GT1, and the sole reason I bought a PS2 was for GT3. But playing it has never made me want to buy a car, it's actually the other way around. After hearing all about the nissan skyline I made sure to play one. A Brit friend of mine turned me on to TVR's, which has led me to race them in the game more...
The speed channel go me interested in WRX's, which oddly enough got me into buying and modding an AWD DSM, which I have since sold and now find myself searching for my next sporty daily driver....

GT3 helped some, but I had a WRX that was costing me a ton to get it up to STI specs. I saw the EVO had everything that my WRX did not have. The Brembo brakes, HID headlights, better suspension, and according to many magazines it was up there with a lot of exotic super cars.
Now for 30k, the decision was fairly easy.

Magazine
Three or four years ago Car & Driver or Road & Track did a story about the best cars that aren't available in the US. The Evo was on that list. Three years ago it was announced that
might bring the car here. Two years ago they said when it would be here and I bought mine last year.

I started out in camp subby WRX when they released the specs for the WRX coming to the US. From then on I learned about the EVO and STI and through this forum I have evolved into an EVO Expert. Short of actuall mechanical experience I know almost everything about it now.
last year i was considering the sti, evo and the 350z... back then i thought the Z was it and the other two was just cheap ricerockets.... i think my opinion was formed after watching 2F2F... when i decided to sell my Z, i happen to see an evo vs sti review on Top Gear and I was sold...evo all the way....
to be honest, i didnt like mitsubishi carz they never apealed to my tastes i was more of a honda/nissan guy, until i saw the "evolution lancer" starting with the PS1-2 games of "Gran Turismo" that was the only car i liked and love using outta the game!! it was one of the carz i wished we had down here in da USA. Now that i have one it's AWESOME!! met all my expectations, power, handling etc. i'm glad mistubishi brought this car stateside!! (initial d also helped in purchasing one anyone know what the hell is a missfiring system??)
well I dont know how to respond to the poll, i really did not have a choice of what car to get. When i was 16 my dad came home and told me about a badass car he drove that handles like his 996 tt and he told me it was a suprise, well next thing you know hes signing papers and gives it to me as my first car.

None of the above.
I had been reading all the positive articles on the WRX. I test drove a WRX when I was still in college and couldn't afford a car. After I got a job, I went to test drive and STI but they wouldn't let me until I almost purchased it. Did some more research on this forum. Then I went to the Mitsu dealership, got a test drive right off the bat, and bought the Evo. I wanted the best bang for my buck.

I was looking for a new car and I wanted something that I could drive like it was a racecar. I never had a fun car before (bikes are for fun, cars are for getting to work), but this time I could afford one. I was looking for the best sport car I could get for under $40k. I came across the WRX and was surprised that there was an AWD turbocharged car for in the $20's. On the various Subaru forums, people kept mentioning "Evo", comparing it favorably to the WRX (or saying the WRX was better but you could tell they were lying) and I was like "What the hell is that?" I bought one about a month later. An Evo that is.
I actually didn't know anything about F&F or WRC before then.
