Was fortunate enough to get started with Mitsubishi in the early 1990's. My wife and I picked up a new Diamante which now has 184,000 miles. When we needed a second car which was to be mine mostly I searched. I was considering the Taurus SHO. During that time I just happened to pickup the New York Times and checked out the auto section just for kicks. I saw a virtually new Galant VR-4 for sale. I didn't know too much about that particular car. I was much more familiar with the 3000 GT VR-4. Unfortunately that car was not in my budget.

I went to look and I drove it and loved it. We thought about it and it didn't work out. The seller called and said if I was interested it was still available. I told him no, again.

A couple of weeks went by and the seller called again. The deal fell through and he asked if I was still interested. We discussed it again and decided to buy it. The car is fun and continues to serve me well. 183,000 miles now.

I became a fan of the AWD turboed car. I looked for the next car to take the GVR-4's place. I read about this Lancer. This car is it but was not available in the US.

I started to get excited about the Evo coming stateside. I didn't get my hopes up too much though.

Then I started seeing that it was a real possibility. I read everything I could get my hands on. I kept calling dealers like once a month.

Finally they hit the ground on Long Island and I headed over to the dealer. Of course I didn't think I would drive one home but guess what I did.

I really couldn't believe it...still can't...get the smile off my face every time I drive it...

Track day tomorrow...Lime Rock Park...whooohooo....

Actually, for me it was going to be a SAAB 9/3 Vector or a G35 Coupe or a BMW 330i Sport Package...

But this crazy Lexus tech in back when I worked at Lexus kept on talking about the "EVO" everytime I went back there...

EVO this and EVO that..all the time.

Finally, I looked into the car some more and put an order in on one 7 months before the car arrived!!

Then the fricken dealer tried to jack the price and I walked and bought it somewhere else..

This car is by far the coolest and most enjoyable car to drive. If the M3 was more affordable and less problamatic I would own it, but to me the EVO is Japanese M3..and I am happy!

It has to be a little bit of everything, starting from Granturismo 2 to Initial D then to Best Motoring Video. But definitely it has to be GT2, man I was hook on to it. I could play that game for hours. If Mitsu. didn't announced that the Evo would make it way to the U.S soil I just wouldn't know what car to buy, seriously. Heck I would prabably even go buy something out of the Kia's lot. I don't hate or like other cars, but when it come to the EVO, man I freakin worship it.

As a few others have mentioned, Initial D introduced me to the Evo... along with Gran Turismo 3. The two fueled each other, I'd watch Initial D and wanna play more GT3. Then I saw a black Evolution in Iowa City on the showroom floor... I knew right then and there I wanted one. It wasn't up until the week I went to buy that I changed my mind on the color to blue... black when clean is still so damn sexy. The Nissan Skyline GT-R34 is the only car I think I'd trade up for as of now. Still I need to see one in person, I might not like it. *shrug*

Man, you guys are deep! For me it was best, smallest, quickest and fastest car within reasonable price in year 2003. In four or five years it will be something else!

Driving one back in 2000. Mitsubishi US had a Evo 6.5, I got to drive. I had no idea what that car was, but after one 45 minute drive I was in lust. It's one of the best cars I've ever driven, and I test alot of cars. Thankfully they brought them here in 2003 and I now own one.

Its all GT1 GT2 and GT3's fault... It started as an me being obcessed with the cars i went thru fases... i wanted a Eclipse GSX but i couldnt afford it... Then i got to a point where i could afford one and i said why? why buy somthing that is outdated why not get the real deal right? The evo i have loved since the first time i saw one and dreamed of owning one for atleast 7 years now..... I nearly bought one of the orginal WRX's back when they first came over and maaaaaaan am i glad i waited! This car is so much more superior in every way............... i wouldnt trade it for anything!
