Thoughts on buying a new Evo for a "daily"

Hey guys whats up i am gonna get straight to it. The EVO 9 Graphite Grey is my favorite evo and i want one for a DD. Is this car worth buying? The dealer is pretty cool i went there a few days ago. Met the owner, personally i trust the guy and he says it is a pretty clean car and has a good home. Honest opinions please!

I would say it looks to be clean. I would get a car fax done before pulling the trigger. Also I'd test drive the **** out of it to make sure the transmission / engine are in working order with no grinds/ misfires. For 25,000 you can get a very very nice evo modded to the level you'd like. The evo can definately be daily driven but make sure you don't mess around with your oil changes and drivetrain fluids.. keep on top of her at all times before buying each mod. What good is a new carbon fiber hood when she's running like ****.

Keep in mind the car is 11 years old and sometimes things break. Make sure you know what your getting into before buying an evo. My car was meticulously maintained and my turbo blew recently. Cost me a couple/few grand for a new turbo plus installation/towing ect. She's running like a god again and it's worth every penny to me.

As far as your evo is concerned I would say you might be able to get her for 22/23 if you play your chips correctly. Keep in mind your going to have to get all of the registration/paperwork and also going to have to pay taxes on the total price of your car.. which is going to be well over another thousand dollars.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck and I hope you get one and can be a part of our community.

Check that car fax!

I use my IX as a summer daily, that and my '69 Vette.

25k seems like a lot of coin imo. If you can get it down a few, would be a nice buy.

I see you're in Northern VA. I travel to fairfax quite a bit and see many evo's up there all the time. May be worth looking around and seeing whats available.

I daily my evo until it starts to snow // salt gets thrown on the roads. Then she sits in the garage till spring.

Interesting in the states they are starting to go up from 20 to 25k, means there must be a good market for them, over here they were mostly around 30k AU now 35k AU....

As said above and its got good miles, if it checks out ok I would def have a look closer, but knock them down a couple of k cause of the yellow brakes, tell em you need a standard look

I agree, 25k is way to steep.

A beautiful white IX SSL with a little under 60k miles sold for 22k the other day. That should give you a rough idea what to bargain too

so you still have a X or are you selling it?

as for the car in the link you posted... just the fact that it has 78k miles is too steep.. generally mileage and over abundance of mods (beyond bolt-ons) is a factor. $25k should fetch you a 9 with 50 to 60k miles.

If you can find a clean 9 at $22k with 60k miles, clean title, no accidents and just bolt-ons then consider yourself lucky. Most owners know what a car like that is generally worth closer to $24k in that condition. The area where you are shopping is also another factor. Every Evo I purchased has never been local to northern VA. Could be just bad timing on my part but I found better deals else where other than DC area.

My last 2 cents is spending $25k on a 9 to make it a DD is bit of a waste... especially if it will not be garaged. In NOVA cars sit in traffic, get dinged almost anywhere you go and the probability of getting rear ended is much higher just due to the higher amount of traffic. Get a higher mileage one and spend less (20-21k) because mileage is not gonna matter if you are going DD it. So why really bother spending the extra cash to get lower mileage one. As with mods (if you do end up spending more than 22k) I wouldn't buy anything with a built motor. Its just isn't worth taking the chance.

22k is most I offer on car you posted... also as them where the car came from.. see if you can locate the previous owner and who did the work on the car (if possible).... and get a compression check on the motor. This would also mean this car has never been hit.

Facebook is another good resource for Evos. Strictly Modified DSM and Evo is a good closed group. CHeck it out if you do not know about it.

Good luck.

Get one from out of state where there is no winter/salt. At least this way your car wont have rust day1, but any car in your region is going to get destroyed from winter driving.
