Oil Temp Gauge

Both of my fittings near the filter housing are taken (Oil Pressure & Oil feed line.) However, since I converted my oil feed line, the old spot in the head just has a plug.

My question is, has anyone ever used this spot for a Oil Temp unit from AEM? Will there be any interference issues with the sensor sticking into the head or perhaps heat issues from the manifold?

Second question, whats the best way to install a water temp gauge? Is there any stock location where you get get a sensor in the loops? Or do you need an STM water neck

Or one of those universal in-line rad hose units?

You can add a t to one of tbe oil filter housing plugs. And for the coolant you can eeld on a bung to the water neck like stm if your on a budget

Oil temp should only be taken in the oil pan. That is the true oil temp. You can drill/tap the factory drain plug for 1/8" NPT and put the temp sensor in the drainplug.

My car has a oil temp sensor built into the drain bolt. Unsure of the brand.

Interesting question; is it more important to know the temperature of the oil in the pan or the oil being fed into the engine. On cars without an oil cooler the pan temperature is the engine feed temperature but on cars equipped with an oil cooler it isn't.

The oil in the pan is the fluid coming out of the engine. Measuring oil temp in places like the oil filter housing could give false high readings due to the oil having just come out of the pump, or it could be low because it just came back from the cooler and is now going into the engine. Just like with automatic transmissions, the correct place to measure temp is in the pan because that is where all the freshly heated fluid is (kind of like how you measure water temp right before the thermostat). Similarly, in dry sump systems, oil temp is taken from the oil tank/reservoir.
