Fcon Or Aem ???
I second the AEM, there are so many other options you can get for it like CDI, wideband, etc, its really tunable. I'm still waiting to save up a little more money to get a few more accessories with mine and to get it tuned so I can install it

Never heard of any ignition problems with the AEM, if you need advanced ignition control, like individual coils or whatnot, you need the CDI. Like Toddevo 8 said, any EMS is only as good as the tuner. Tuned properly I don't see why there would be any ignition problems.
Do you specifically what kinda ignition problems people were running into?

BTW, we had Akira Nakarai from Japan over in our shop today. Quite literally, he wrote the book on EVO tuning in Japan. In addition to being the chief engine tuner for Bozzspeed and Top Secret, he's also a freelance writer that writes for Options and other Japanese mags. He tuned a 3037'd HKS-full EVO with an F-Con on our dyno today. It is a nice unit. But like everything else, it is only as good as the person tuning it.

1)AEM has the best costumer support
2)you can tune it yourself if you buy the wideband o2 sensor
either way both will make the same power with a good tuner.
AMS in Chicago uses AEM with the stock ignition and have 550whp on their shop car with no problems
so my vote goes to AEM

Let's tart with the basics first of all
the AEM and HKS are VERY closely realted units
The main difference being the AEM is 100% user tunable (in capable hands), the HKS is NOT user tunable, nor ever will be. HKS will not sell you the software, and any shop caught giving out the software automatically has their Pro Shop status revoked.
That beign said, what you will find when you get down to it is all of the current engine mgmt options are remarkably similar in what they can realistically achieve.
The early AEM units had isolated ignition issues - this has been rectified since January though....had to get that out of the way.
As for one being better, the simple fact is that none of the systems IMHO are "better" than another - each have plusses and minuses, and the people who push one over another tend to do so for economic reasons, not outright performance reasons. I persoanlly don't see anything wrong with this, as the vendors here tend to sell what they know (some vendors know more than others though, as I know Shiv and others can attest to!). Having been around standalone for a long, long time now, and having tuned just about every system out there, I can tell you that they by and large perform the same functions - some do so with fancy software and a nice GUI interface..others take a more simplistic approach.
IMHO, the msot important investment you an make is finding a capable tuner to work with - if the person punching the keys understands the interface he is wroking with, be it a reflashed ecu, an Xede, a TECIII, a Motec, SDS, a Pectel, a UTEC, a Power FC, etc. etc, your results will be fantastic, bottom line.
Pick your tuner, then your tuning interface - not the other way around.
If on the other hand you plan to tune it yourself, see what your local buddies are using. If they are WRX owners, who all are using UTEC's, get a UTEC. If they are Honda or Supra owners all using AEM, get the AEM. If they are all RX7 owners using Power FC's, get the Power FC. If they are WRX owners who use the Xede, get an Xede. No matter whcih way you go, the local support becomes a critical factor to consider, but its often the one most widely overlooked. If system 1 costs you $1000 to buy but your car never runs right and you, nor your friends, nor your tuner can make it work, its a waste of money, and becomes a very expensive paperweight.
If on the other hand option 2 is $2000.00, but due to local support the car can be up and running in no time, and performs consistently, you'll quickly forget that it cost you 2x as much...
See my point?
