Initially I thought that piece would a swept surface following a sketched line (ie trajectory).

I look at it and I think a 2D picture of the top and bottom would allow you to get a sketch of both the starting surface and the bottom surface. Then it might be possible to sweep them together.

Thats how i did it. sweeping (multiface extrusion) from the base up to the top profile.
However, i can only make crude measurements at the moment so its trial and error right now

Maybe I'll scan the interior volume of it and host it somewhere for someone to do something with.

That scan would be awesome if you can get it and I can work on creating a pod for it

The VW people do some great things with their printers. I've seen VW a/c vents where the flaps were the logo and I believe some people make air vents that hold a boost controller. Also they're buttons that are hollowed out with a boost gauge inside. If you make a large part with an ugly surface you can just vacuum pack it and then lay carbon fiber over top and cut it loose when it dries. Something to replace the ash tray as you said and I would love a housing for a gauge in the center dash console where you would normally have the 3 controls at the bottom because mine does not have that and when I go to replace the center part because I don't need the satalite TV or old DVD player I will have to drill holes for my two top buttons but I don't want a large gaping rectangular hole at the bottom.

I would really love a little mount that I can install a plastic flap on near the gas cap so that I simply flip it down to prevent gas drops from ruining my paint. The first Nissan/Datsun FairLady 180sx came with that and also came with a light for mechanics that you could even unscrew and look around the engine bay with it. Some cars had foot controls to turn down your lights when passing another car. There have been some cool things that disappeared over the years.

Actually now that I think about can you make this piece right here? Im in the process of changing out the dashboard for a 7” screen to make the car more modern

Nice- I have used a point cloud scanner like that to do some engineering troubleshooting. What I find difficult is getting around all sides of an object. Also, you will have to spray the surface of parts with a dusty like paint so the scanner "sees" the parts right sometimes.
