The difficult thing is getting the textures and colors to match. I made an A-pillar for my truck (not 3d printed) but I ended up getting good results with my paint that I bought to match the interior. https://www.ranger-forums.com/interi...nstall-155892/
I can say that I have some experience painting 3d printed parts and it takes quite a few build layers of 2k primer to get them filled in so they look like they are smooth. I did this with a set of trim rings I made and it took a straight week of primer/sanding/primer/sanding/primer/sanding.
Id go insane if i tryed to make textures to match!
I personaly like the look of printed parts so all my extras are "unfinished" because i like the finish.
I work with one guy who builds cosplay helmits. Way too much sanding for me!!
You can do transparent prints already (w/ post finishing), just a question of if they will survive and for how long.
UV damage or just rocks bashing away? Be a pretty big deal if we could get a usable lens, even if it needs 3M film to keep it together. Or would layering show up in light pattern, like a refraction problem?

The former. I've seen fully transparent prints so I don't think that will be a problem. Headlights live a tough life though and I don't know if the durability is there to survive.

Yet? At some point we should have an AI buddy that can live tune the car and print whatever parts are needed to repair...in my sci-fi nerd dreams anyway.
What parts are just over priced that could be printed?
Three years ago I bought my 3D printer and while ive had small projects over time I feel its time to ask for ideas.
This is to set out to enhance my modeling skills as well as produce parts, custom or replacement, for our cars.
I have a close to stock VIII GSR so i can pull parts from that.
However, i have kept mine in very clean condition and not much has broke and do not know what breaks often.
Ive done the fuel door clip and am looking into making a phone mount that replaces the ash tray.
Also working on the bezel housing for the headlight level and fog light button. Because thats broke.
Anyways, all ideas are welcome. And again this is for me to extend by modeling skills not for a practacality production.
However, if intrested I can sell the TEST parts.
