Tragedy in Evo and Cycling community (RIP Curt Brown)
Tragedy in Evo and Cycling community (RIP Curt Brown)
I’m totally under qualified to make this post, but we have tragically lost Curt Brown today. I’m both pissed off and sad to hear the news.
I only met Curt once in person back in March when I hung out in his basement with him while he was wrapping up the cylinder head that he was doing for me. It didn’t take long to find out that he was certainly one of the best and most genuine humans there are.
We in the Evo and DSM community hold him in high regard, but many probably don’t know that he’s held in equally high regard in the cycling world. I have several friends in the Pittsburgh area that cycle with Curt and even though these people were 15-20 years younger, Curt could still blow them away in some of the most grueling cycling events. One of those friends sent the below article to me. Just so sad.

May he RIP.
What's wild is just this afternoon I was reading an article that said 857 cyclists were killed in 2018 by cars in the US. I really didn’t care for all its preaching against big vehicles and I was thinking that’s an awfully low number in the big scheme of things. Then to see this. I still disagree with the agenda of the article, but that said, there's a lot of risk riding 2 wheelers of any kind where cars are involved.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Thank you for making this post. Absolutely horrible news this has really got to me. Like many others on here, all my experiences with Curt were extremely pleasant. It's rare you meet someone as honest, hard working and just plain generous like he was. He went above and beyond expectations to help me out and will be missed by many. Rest in peace bud
Just woke up and this is the first news I heard. I literally just got done doing some business with him the other day. Always a pleasure to work with and he always gave me solid advice. Fck, this is a shock.
Rest in peace, brother.

RIP my Friend!
We lost a member of the GTR community a few months back, Doug at Weapons Grade Performance, who was hit by a car that crossed the center line when he was tuning a customer's car. Curt actually did all of Doug's GTR intake manifold porting along with other GTR shops so they knew each other. In celebration of Doug, the GTR community did a cruise in his honor and this is how it worked. A date and time was set, which was ~7pm on a Sunday EST, and we just hoped in our GTR and did an hour long cruise to pay tribute to Doug's contribution to the GTR community.
If anyone thinks it is a good idea to do a cruise in honor of Curt, please share your thoughts.

The DSM/EVO community has lost one of the best OGs. Even though I never meet him in person, Curt Brown was a great guy and always answered all my questions, plus had super quick turn around and the best hand porting in the game.
You will be missed greatly. RIP. Now onto the bike ride in the sky.

Saw this first on FB. I was in shock I couldn't believe it was real. Curt really set an example of what being an honest, genuine and hard working enthusiast and tuner looks like for us. The stuff he was doing with dsm and evos was exciting and in many ways he led the industry. I always supported Curt whenever I could with my business because I knew he was the best and was never out to just get rich or inflate his ego. I never met him in person but he was one of those guy you could talk on the phone for hours. Feels especially horrible and aggravating to lose someone like THAT to a d.u.i. driver who doesn't probably even know who's life they ended.
I never knew he was an avid cyclist but if you have the mentality to be the best at one thing you have it for everything else. I'm a cyclist myself and we fully know its dangers and accept it for the sport just like auto racing. I've been hit nice and hard by a car once and been in many close calls. Almost every other strong cyclist I know has been hit at least once if not like 5+ times. The faster cyclists know the speeds they travel at often surprise inattentive drivers (we always come out of "no where"!), although thats very dependent on the local drivers. If you are someone like Curt though, there is no chill to the speed you ride at. But none of that was a reason for this accident (dui driver crossed the road and hit Curt head-on) and Curt's only mistake apparently was to enjoy another hobby of his.
RIP. If he had any family / kids I hope they are dealing as best they can. Anyone with CB parts on their evo should send it in honour of the man. He wasn't about all show & no go parts.
