will defrost work if i block off heatercore hoses 2006 mitsubishi evo

I'm just looking to see if this could be the problem, many moons ago I had the AC compressor taken out to save weight, I had idea to remove heatercore box since my dash was apart, but in the end I think I made it as far as just cutting the hoses in the engine bay U-turning them and doing the same to the hose they went to on the actual engine block. So Now that I may be moving to a rainy environment, I know I'll need defrost, the climate control knobs are not stuck, they turn just fine, the problem is the defrost or just air in general do not blow come on or nothing, about the only thing that comes on is the AC light if I hit that button, I don't want to put the compressor back in, I just want to make sure I can use defrost, and currently nothing turns on, any help would be appreciated.

You will need to reinstall the heater core if you want any kind of heat.

Even if you get the heater working, you'll need the a/c to remove the fog from the inside of the windshield in cold humin weather. If you're going thru the trouble to get the heater to work, id get the a/c going again too.
