Master Cylinder/Slave Issues
Master Cylinder/Slave Issues
I will preface this by saying this build from the ground up has been a real challenge.
So I attempted to bleed the clutch slave cylinder based on the information here
https://www.evomoto.com/tech_article..._article_id=17
It didn't work or at the very least I don't believe it was working, nothing but burst of air was coming out. I repeated the process numerous times over (20) making sure I followed the steps to a T. And still I wasn't getting any fluid at all and the pedal wasn't getting any stiffer just sticks to the floor when depressed.
Next I decided to see if perhaps the connection between the slave and master was blocked for some reason so I disconnected it from the clutch slave cylinder and started pumping the clutch. Same thing here nothing but air was coming out no fluid. I then disconnected the line completely from both the slave and master to see if any fluid was leaving the master cylinder and again nothing was coming from the master.
I'm not quite sure if perhaps I'm doing a terrible job at bleeding, if it's normal that no fluid is flowing to the slave or my master cylinder is shot. All the help is appreciated. Thanks.
Stock slave and master cylinder, STM tuned stainless steel line.

Make sure your topping the fluid off as you bleed the brake and clutch share a fluid resivor. So it might look full but the clutch side is empty. Was the system working before or has it sat for awhile?
Thanks for the quick reply. Yes reservoir is completely topped off, but now that you mention it the car is slightly in the air, on jack stands in the front, could that contribute to what I'm seeing? And yes, I bought the vehicle gutted and it hadn't had its parts installed for at least a year or more.
The seals could be bad in the master. Is there any leakage in the cabin side of the master right around the adjuster rod above the clutch pedal. Might be time for a new one or pull the old one and break it down to look for a bad seal or signs of failure.
Also might need to mess with the adjusting rod on back of pedal. I would start with the rod full extended screwed in towards pedal so your getting the furthest outward travel of the master. Then pump rapidly and hold down bleed repeat a few times then start to screw rod away from pedal so your getting the deepest stroke of travel if that makes sense.
There should be a c-clip holding the rod plunger into the assembly if you pull it the rod will slide out with a plunger with a seal on it. It could be torn or deteriorated, gummed up from fluid possibly or the cylinder bore could be scored.

Got it, will check that immediately. I've been working at this project for about a month now (Full time masters student) and every time I think its ready to roll I hit another snag so I appreciate the help.
Sorry idk if I stated it right. I had removed the stainless steel line from the master cylinder and pumped the clutch to see if any fluid came out of the master cylinder not the slave.
So I didn’t find anything wrong with the master cylinder so I put it back together and attempted to bleed one last time. And wouldn’t you know it, it bled properly! I also adjusted the clutch pedal, looking through the peep hole of the transmission it doesn’t seem like it’s moving the fork much. Is that just adjusting the clutch pedal like you recommended before? Thanks again

you will adjust it with the threaded rod on the master that attaches to the pedal. There is a write up somewhere on here on how to adjust it. You basically want the clutch to grab a few inches from the floor when releasing. The adjusting rod will move the engagement point around. But you don't want it to grab right off the floor or to high off the floor because then it won't be engaging or disengaging fully.
