Evo update
Evo update
Read into this how you want but here is an update from my source:
"You are right, I can't say much. We will announce the US model at the LA
autoshow. The first units for here will ship from Japan toward the end of
January. Model details about other world wide versions will be announced
at the end of January by MMC - not by the US office.
.
As for your racing program, timing and availability might make a difference
to you, but I cannot speculate on what you want to achieve and which model
will work best for your efforts.
.
BTW, the LA Auto Show is Jan. 4-12 2003

This info is pure fact. It is very vague though. They never tell me specifics but instead give hints. But they do tell some things such as release dates.
Here is my interpretation: They are releasing the Evo to the US at the end of Jan. BUT they are also going to announce upcoming models for later in the year.
It is pretty vague and may to tough to understand but there is some "hidden" info in there

jst fer some info.....jst because Japan is getting a certain spec doesn't mean we'll get screwed over.
The Evo VII has 2 specs....remember? Jap Spec AND Euro Spec.
Once again....I'm not worried...some of you get WAAAAAAAY too worked up about something we know nothing about
Take a pill

The only thing I don't get is why the watered down version is the one we get in the first place? Is it because Japanese companies don't see potential in the North American market? If so, I don't think it makes sense because judging from the amount of people on every web forum I visit, everyone wants a Type R, or an STI, and for us, an Evolution brought over.

The reason we don't get the screamin' specs (usually) is that the Japanese market is more sophisticated. On the forums, you have a tiny subset of Americans who happen to be smart, curious, saavy, and demanding. The rest of the US (and thus, over 90% of the buying market) is dumb. I mean, just plain stupid. Willing to buy a $30,000 car because they think it looks "really cool" and it felt like it went really fast when they pushed the gas during the test drive. their primary (and often ONLY) technical education comes directly from the dealer's shpeel. They lay a check down, get screwed buying warrantee options, "undercoating", and then pay a point over what they should on interest. I hear many people worry ONLY about the monthly payment and never even compare the total price they are paying.
I am an American...I have to say we have a lot of idiots running around. I keep reminding myself continually: "people are stupid....people are stupid" It helps me to remember and thus understand. That is the answer to why we get the "watered-down" versions.
