Ok. This is the weirdest thing i have ever experienced. I have an 06 evo ix mr with bolt on mods, on 93 pump gas, tuned by Atlantic Motorsports. I currently have 29,500 miles on her. When i am stopped, and a loud car or truck drives past me, my engine rpms drop very low and almost stalls out. Obviously the voltage meter drops to like 12.0 or 11.6 or something like that when this occurs as well. It doesn't matter if I'm in neutral or sitting stopped in 1st gear. I have no idea what could be causing this. It's almost like some sort of interference issue. Has anyone ever experienced this before? And what do i do to fix this? Thanks. 👍
Shes shy, give her alittle gas, but in all seriousness such a beautiful evo, the evo 9's are incredible machines and are aging soo well but id take that plate off your intercooler, the amount of air flow you're losing is very significant from such a big obstruction.
Huh.
Being nothing more than a person I'm just stabbing at what could do things to stuff.
Sub-sonic/infrasound vibrations messing with A) connectors? B) grounds? C) electronics(this is all, ECU, sensors, injectors...)? What, I'm a sci-fi fan and want it to be the Star Trekkiest problem!
More likely a vacuum leak?
Maybe piezoelectric effect messing with some signal, like the maf. Obviously something would have to be messed up with one of your devices for this to be the case, otherwise it would be a widespread problem. You could try logging maf and other signals while trying to reproduce the fault. Maybe get a leaf blower or something and make a bunch of noise around the engine with the hood popped.
It’s the MAF Sensor. Well known and documented issue with a intake set up that retains the stock MAF. Will also happen with the same stumble if you close your hood by holding it and letting it slam shut at idle.
Put the stock air box back in or go SD and never worry about it again, these would both require retuning obviously or just deal with it when loud cars/bikes pass you while idling.
