omni map sensor alternate option...
Hey guys, i have an evo 8 running on sd using an omni 4 bar. These omnis seems to be taking a **** more often. Heard stories from different friends and around the internet. I was wondering if anyone has tried tuning on stock ecu with another map sensor like aem etc. A friend of mine suggested i use aem map sensor and i like the idea. Seeing what everyones opinion on this is. Also, i heard omni will take back the bad sensor and replace it for you free of charge. Anyone heard about this?
Is it only scaling for sensor that matters to tune(2 things I've changed in tune is limiter and Omni3bar) so as long as those numbers are correct tune should be good? So then how hard is it to get scaling info? Please explain like I'm an idiot cause I really don't have a clue where to start looking for that...manufacturer I suppose?
If you go the AEM Map route, get the ECM adapter that puts the sensor to the side and PNP connector.
ECM Adapter
PNP Connector - This is about $10 cheaper than the ER PNP.

but if they do this without asking for proof or sensor back etc wouldnt it mean they prob know their sensors are ****? i mean im by no means complaining about their customer service but i keep hearing stories of these failing often...sometimes months after being on the car...it would suck if it would fail on a wot...im looking into the aem sensor to see if i can tune it with stock ecu...seems like its a safer option.
In their defense, my first sensor lasted a bit over 4 years, second sensor has been on for 2-3 years. So I don't know. Electronics fail. That's a fact of life. I even had a grimmspeed EBS fail and it was replaced at no charge.
I agree with that but there’s a lot of reports of it failing…alot of them within months…I heard they moved the factory over seas or something and it started happening…guess quality went to ****…
In my experience, Omni 4 bar sensors are garbage. I'm on my 3rd (maybe 4th now??) sensor in about 1.5 years. The only saving grace is that if you email them about it they will send you a replacement as long as you can prove you purchased a real omni through a omni parts dealer via invoice/receipt. I would recommend switching to the oem evo x 3 bar sensor ("jdm map") for reliability if you dont plan to go over 30 psi. When my current omni fails this is what I plan on doing.

Just had my Omni 4 Bar start acting up - approximately 3500 miles in just under a year of use. Manifested as P1400 code w/ slightly increased idle. I emailed Omni, and they were speedy on the email and the replacement, free of charge.
My car is only using the sensor for the boost table, so at this point I decided i'd just keep a spare on hand and see how it goes. If this continues to happen, i'll probably look to the OEM 3 Bar.
Earlier this year I was speaking to Jeff Evans/Evans Tuning about MAP sensors for a SC'd s2k tune. He didn't recommend the Omni or AEM sensors due to issues with them over the years, mostly delamination. Said the only one he recommends at the moment is the Hondata 4 Bar. He said they've been very reliable for him. Not sure if the voltage scaling is the same, and the connector i'm pretty sure is not. But I figure it'd be easy enough to find a connector and re-pin the CT9A harness.
