i baught a new map built 2.0 stage 2 block from some one
wisco 9:1 pistons
manlay turbo tuff rods
king bearing
oem crank
what oil should i be running after the break in?? i read a 20w50 is recommended for built engines but when i asked map on email the guy causally told me too use 10w40 😐

now im done with my break in what oik can i use for this map engine??

You use the oil your builder tells you to. Randos on the interwebs have no idea what clearances/tolerances the engine was built with. If you have the blueprint sheet with all the tolerances then maybe some experienced folks will weigh in with their suggestions for your specific use case. Realistically though, just go with what the builder tells you.

So there is your answer. They probably set up all their engines that way, which could be why the answer seemed so off the cuff to you.

As above, you should take guidance from your tuner.

Mine said 20w50 protects my motor more when tracking and as long as I warm it up well, it's ok on the street. I had some 10w40 from before it got built so he said use that on the road but not on the track

 

On the written instructions I got with my built 2.3 from them last fall It said run VR120W50 or amsoil 20w50 after broken in.

 

from map?? it said use what ever i want after break in on mine which is what confused me. i emailed map and then they told me too use 10w40.

 

Always follow engine builders specification for correct oil weight as stated above. That information should not have to be asked for. It should be information provided to you including proper break in procedure with what oil to use on first start up, and drain intervals during break in to insure proper ring seal. You also should have received a blueprint and build sheet with the new engine as well listing all components, tolerances, weight of components as received, components weight at installation, etc…


Last SBC we had built for a C3 Vette did, hell builder even sends them with break in oils. First start on straight weight Break-In specific oil, then enough for two more changes per builders procedure. Car doesn’t burn a drop only @ ~400hp motor for now. Going to built fuel injected 6.0L LS2 from a GTO donor this winter. I want to SC it per my need for speed, and can easily source a good used or rebuilt SC from an over the pond or down under Monaro but in the C3 Corvette chassis it might be too much without strengthening the hell out of it.
