Evo jdm rear bumper exhaust help

Does anyone have a picture of jdm rear bumper with usdm exhaust? I have 3 inch megan racing exhaust and I would like to purchase jdm bumper but I am thinking to keep the exhaust. Does it sticking out a lot? Or jdm exhaust is a must? Thanks!

I had it on my evo 9 and It sticks out like 2" too much, some people like it some hate it. Honestly it's what you prefer but some of the early tuner style have it like that on purpose (like supra/skylines). It looks pretty cool imo with a angle exit but I also like a nice oval muffler with a "proper" tip too. Looks more oem/rally style. Subtle less aggressive.

I think both but I'd rather have a muffler shop cut it at the inlet of the muffler and adjust there instead of modifying just the tip

Look at my JDM rear bumper thread. I modified mine to work- you will need to do the same.

Perfect! Thanks a lot! I have exactly the same exhaust. The rear tip is removable, it is attached with rivet so I was thinking to just remove the tip cut it and install it back. I know angle will remain the same of the exhaust and it might not be perfect but I think it will do the job. I also have stm rear crash beam so I don't have to make one like you did.

You need to make enough room also for it to move. There is quite a bit of flex in the exhaust so it moves around a lot. The last thing you want is the resonator portion of the exhaust moving and hitting your rear fascia. This is why I cut the main pipe. Even with the 3 or so inches I removed I still trimmed the fascia (before painting) to make clearance where it was too tight for my taste. My welding has improved quite a bit since then- I am much better now.

Consult an exhaust shop about modifying the current exhaust. Main reason to get the evo 9 specific exhaust is so you don’t melt the plastic bumper. I got the HKS Super turbo for mine.

Like I said - the problem with most "exhaust shops" is that they do not know how to properly weld this kind of pipe. It needs to be backpurged and tig welded. Only a professional tig welder will know how to do this. No exhaust shop will even have a tig welder, let along know how to backpurge. If you do this without backpurging it will have carbide precipitation on the back side of the weld- and it will crack and the crack will grow and split the pipe. Racing exhaust parts have to deal with vibration quite a bit and are at high risk for this.

I would get a JDM bumper exhaust and sell the old exhaust. Save time.
