Aftermarket ABS Sensor Replacements?

I am currently in the process of restoring the whole undercarriage of my JDM Evo 8. Mostly everything came off without any hassles or damaging which is good... Except for the ABS Sensors.

Now I love to buy everything OEM for this car as much as I can, but each ABS sensor is like $300??? Is there any aftermarket option that could replace this for way cheaper?

Only reason I am asking is I have seen comments of some not working while others have, so if anyone has any options for aftermarket ABS sensors that work please let me know!

Otherwise im going to have to commit suicide for spending more than $1200 on ABS sensors... Thanks

I have used sensors from RockAuto without issue. I had to grind one probe end down a bit for clearance but have had no issues for a couple years now.

Aftermarket wheelspeed sensors are typically not a problem. Put some anti-seaze on them so they come out easy.

I was looking at the ones on RockAuto, whats the best way to grind/shave them down?

You shouldn't have to do this. Not sure why this was originally the case but corrosion on steel creates "rust jacking" which can pull sensors away and cause issues. This is a major problem for wheel speed sensors. Maybe this is why he did so. I suggest buying the proper part for your application and if there are minor things that need to be dealt with due to aftermarket quality not being as good - cross that bridge when you come to it.

The FSM specifies ABS sensor clearance to the wheel. I bought one set and slapped them in but the end of the sensor actually interfered with the sensor wheel so it broke the end of the sensor. Honestly not something I thought I would have to check. The other side was fine. When I bought the replacement I checked the clearance, then took off some of the tip with a file. It didn’t take much in my case.

Figured I would just throw it out there to check the clearance since it was the evo specific part. Like I said though, for $15 or whatever it was, I’m still into that wheel about 1/10 the price of oem.

RockAuto for sure. I have 3 in my car and a full spare set if I ever need them.
