Starter… Grease?

Pulled out my starter to do an oil pan gasket and started cleaning up some grease where it sits inside the trans. Do I regrease this? Or can I completely clean both this end and the starter itself? Below you will see the small area that I cleaned and stopped before I finished.

you can clean it or just leave it alone. you may have a little leak at the rear seal

so that’s not intentional grease but rather built up oil and dirt? I assumed I would have a rear main leak soon. I will probably tend to that when I do a clutch
