SCC Evo Orgy!
Finally got the mag last night. All I can say is ... damn!!! Very nice Evos!
Hmm, after reading through the article, I'm wondering how good a Vishnu Stage 1+ with an RRE suspension would be.
I'm thinking good, solid power w/out turbo swap and insane handling. Definitely the route I wanna go. Now I just wish I could afford it all before next year ...

Does anyone run a copmetition with street fuel only? 93 octane or lower? All these C16 high boost settings just for the dyno are misleading. Maybe a few competitions like this will help improve the standards by which a street car and it's tuning are measured and compared.
Ohh Congratutlations to all that ran. and had the oppurtunity to go have fun!

You guys are all ****ing idiots....the article itself STATES that it is not a competition, or a shootout. It's INFORMATION about different tuners and what their cars are producing. So quit your damn *****ing about how they didn't do more testing/lateral g's/*** kissing or whatever. Christ people you have nothing better to do than ***** and complain about a magazine article. Either buy it or don't, enjoy it or don't, but quit being ****tards thinking you can do better. I don't see any magazine editors posting here lately.
For a nice article, it's great.. Now hopefully another magazine *WILL* do a shootout.. What's an orgy without a shootout? I mean comeon!
A good competition with nice ground rules would be very helpful to consumers looking to see what is out there. For just an nice article, why did they bother with race gas? Hmmm.. They weren't competing themselves were they? Timed Laps? Glorious one dyno pull runs without knock correction..
What I don't get is the article says on that pointless for any real world use run it ran to 8000 rpm cleanly.. The graph doesn't look clean and it looks cut off at 6800 rpm.
Oh well maybe a good competition will be announced that people can participate in and then folks can find out what 93 octane gets you and no tuning/repairing of the cars allowed to enforce durability concerns would yield...
Nice article, but it tries to imply too much.. and I think many aren't seeing through the smoke.. I hope a certain highly lightened 425 awhp daily driven on 93 octane dropping the kids off each morning and picking them very durable Evo can attend a real orgy, with shootout and competition rules in place.
Street tires like one lap with 140 or greater treadware, street gas 93 oct., full interior, and no tuning in between venues would be a good indicator for folks to see what their cars are capable of day in and day out..not for 30 seconds and then in the shop for rebuild for a few weeks.

But seriously, if I remember correctly, the article stated that they allowed race gas, since they didn't want to use the "crappy" 91 octane CA gas. I would like to see something similar to what you're suggesting, though. A competition of everyday Evos. Although, IMO, it would still not be all that meaningful unless everyone ran on the same tires. Unfortunately that is near impossible to enforce, and so any track shootout will usually end up being a tire contest, not a car contest.
Comquat1: Personally I'm going with the Vishnu stage 1 signature and after that, once I've replenished my bank account, I'll go with the RRE suspension package. If you're a DIY type of guy, then you should be able to install the stage 1, and you could install the RRE package, but in their case I'd still go there and let them setup your car, since they really seem to know their s***.
To answer the question about the RMR Evo, it is actually a different car from the one in C&D. That one was a Evo 7 with Evo 8 front clip, wing and rear lights, but the one they took to SCC is a bona fide 8. The 7 was changed back into a 7, as I recall, and I _think_ it is now a Group N spec rally car.
IMO, the article was too short....or there were too many cars. Either they should have not compared so many tuners (but i'm sure that's what we all want) or they shoudl have made the article much longer. I feel like they didnt go into any detail about the tuners. They just scratched the surface of each car. They also spent 1/4 of the article talking about some of the tuners showing up late and other complaints LOL.

I didn't read all of these pages in regards to this article but, did anyone ever notice that all of the cars that were using the Exedy Twin Plate clutch, had a 3.9 second or lower 60ft time? No matter what horsepower they were at... Seems like we have something here...
Actually that is one of the out take pics. Slightly different. But still a cool shot. They had some $8k Cannon digital camera. We had it hung about 3 feet off the rear 1/4 panel on a tripod stuck on with suction cups and gaffer's tape. It is on a 10 second exposure and we are driving in the streets of downtown Fullerton at night at about 20 mph. We found that we had to go through an intersection so that the stopped cars would throw some light on the side of the car with their headlights. SCC's Josh Jacquot is laying in the empty back floor with a hand held flash firing it off here and there to put a little light in the interior. The little squiggle in the lights that are reflected on the side of the car are from the camera slightly moving out on the end of the tripod. Makes it look like we are going warp 9.
The shot above is with a turn into a parking lot to get the lights to curve a bit. The cover shot was all straight ahead and the tripod suction cup on the 1/4 panel is shopped out.
He kept whimpering about no seat belts, worrying about cops and also something about getting fired if the camera got ripped of by the opposing traffic. Wuss.
For the shot with Rhys's car, we were on the top level of a near by parking structure just at sunset. The camera is hanging off of Rhys's car and we are turning full 180 degree u turns. I am leading and Rhys's job is to keep a perfect relationship between the two cars. He is a profefesional precision driver for TV commercials so he made it look easy. As I am turning it looks like his car is attached to mine in the mirrors inches off the back bumper. The wide angle lense does not do justice to how close together we are. It is the same 10 second exposure but at about 3 mph.
After we were all done, I am decending the six or so levels of the parking structure merrily setting off all the car alarms with the catless JIC exhaust and GReddy 25G. Vroom...woo-woo-woo. Vroom...woo-woo-woo. Had a full symphony of at least 15 alarms going all at once echoing through out the structure. Then I get to the bottom level and a lady cop is just kicking it writing a report. Doh! I just pulled up next to her, shut off the motor and offered up my hands in the "please cuff me" gesture. She looks at me like "You idiot" I offered back an apologetic "yep". She smiled and motioned "get out of here" so i did. I slunk back to the shop under the radar and put the monster away.
