Acd + Ayc
Acd + Ayc
Can someone explain what exactly these are? Does the evo already come with LSD?
I tried a search and it's not working. If there's a post already about this, can someone give me the link?

The search function isn't working on old posts, at least I haven't been able to find anything with my searches.
Quick answers - Yes, the Evo8 has 2 mechanical limited slip differentials (front and rear) with a viscous center coupling. ACD replaces the viscous center coupling and allows for electronic control of power distribution between the front and rear. AYC utilizes the ACD and electronically controlled diffs to apply power to the tire(s) with the most grip.

but is there really a significant amount of difference b/w the USDM models without them and maybe the MR version coming in, or just the JDM version? Will you really be able to feel the difference? Also, is it possible to be installed in the USDM models if it never reaches the US? I think I saw one of the top gear/ 5th gear vids testing out the evo and he was making 90 degree turns going a 100 miles an hour! So then is that the power of the ACD and AYC or just the car's performance in general?
first off you wont notice any difference between the two unless you go to the racetrack, then the AYC and ACD stands out a bit since more torque is present at the rear wheels, but that 90degree turn CAN be accomplished with the USDM version if you know hot to control the car it may be harder to do but possible

as the USDM evo sits it handles 90 degree turns fine stock... again if you know how to control the vehicle. I personally would liek to have both the ACD and AYC on my car just for the state of mind of them being on there, daily driving you won't notice anytihng really other then the car may pull for feel like its pulling slightly harder becasue of the torque split. AYC would be great to have just as a safety device, I mean the car would be much safer in rain and troublesome situations.
You can add all these devices to the USDM but it is very costly, actually i'm not sure if the AYC is possible but i know the ACD has be transplanted, your better off selling your current model and buying a new model which already has them.
PS the USDM only has one mechanical diff, rear. The front is open on the evolution VIII. The RS is said to have front and rear mechanical diffs.

I always thought the car would flip over and roll if I did 90 degree turns. I don't think I'll ever try it over 5 miles an hour. haha
anyway.
so no one knows if the MR is gonna have the AYC in it huh. How much is the MR gonna be? When is it coming out? When the hell is mitsu gonna update their website?? They still only have the 2003 evo out.

I can't remember the shop that did it but i itnhk it was in southern cali, But it was done. The reason this stuff isn't comming to the US is becasue it requires alot of technical support and as you may have experienced mitsu doesn't exactly have that kind of support at your local dealers... Basicly these things are all electronic and theres alot of little things and electronics to make it all work. If this were to come to the US they would need to train atleast 1 guy in each district to know this stuff inside out, if not a few. or better yet one for dealer. Lots of money that mitsu doesn't have.
ok now what's an open differential? how is it different from the limited slip differential?
also, I thought I read somewhere in this forum that the MR WAS coming out in the states late this year

Supposedly it does come out. Is there gonna be a great price difference?
I was planning on getting the evo within a few weeks. Do you think I should wait until there's official news about the MR? Forget the RS. I want the sunroof AC radio everything.
