HELP!! Power steering pump and hose

Hey anyone broke the power steering hose caused by removing the cam gears cover??
damn i took it off just for fun and it's costing me 1000-1100 bucks just to replace it and the pump too..
the car's still in mitsubishi right now and I told them to leave it first till i ask them to fix it.. cos i think that thats too much for those stuff.....

I'm wondering if the power steering pump is really that weak??
cos once i realized that the hose starts leaking i stopped driving and i was farrrrr away from city.. the tow to the mistu dealer itself costed me 350 bucks.....

and they're gonna charge me 600+ for the pump, 200+ for the hose and the rest labor which totals up to 1027 if i'm not wrong... 200+ bucks for a HOSE??

and how do i check whether the pump is really broken? i guess they're just trying to rip me off......

Any help is greatly appreciated...... thanks people!

close to 1400 bucks just because i removed the cam gears cover.....
dont like that man.... HELP!!!

A local guy, who is on the board (HAALN), did the same thing. He did it himself and I believe he paid about $200 bucks for the line. You have to take off a lot of parts to get the thing out. He had to jack up the tranny and motor to get the line out.

Why are they selling you a new pump?

Hey... that sucks man! I had the same problem, I had taken off my cover cause in a few days was going to the dyno to play with the cam gear timing. Somehow it moved and was cut.

I found the hose online for about $150 at www.mitsubishiparts.net. You can get the part number from the dealer and then look that part up online. I didn't have to replace the pump as mine was fine. I never lost power steering when I noticed the problem and didn't run the pump dry. Taking out the old hose and installing the new hose wasn't fun. I am suprised they only charge you $200. I wonder how the dealership does it. The hard line that connects to the gearbox is almost impossible to get out. You can get to the bolts to undo but couldn't get the hose out because of the hard line and how it snakes around the engine mount to get to the gearbox. I had to undo 3 motor mounts and jack the engine up. Then it took lots of work to get the line free.

Good luck!

got it done.
1. removed the brace that runs front to back
2. disconnected the rear motor mount right above the hose
3. tilted motor and TADA!! it came free
total time approx 3.5-4 hrs

Id buy a used pump from the forums. Ive even got an extra laying around in my garage. At least that will save you some money. After you do that you could bite the bullet on hose and labor. If you are mechanically inclined you could do it yourself. May even find hose here on forums.

Dang that sucks. I removed my cam cover also just to check the timing belt. I guess I got lucky. Good thing i'm extra careful when removing something I haven't removed before Good luck by the way.
