wnyone else found out how much a turd the evo is in 5th gear with a car full of people and luggage with the ac on? last night, i was at the end of a 10 hour drive with 3 people, the ac on #2 and a full trunk of luggage... and this red eclipse was trying to race me. i fooled around with him when i was in 5th gear and was only able to hold up with him. but in fairness he droped gears and hammered it, while i eased it with a tad higher than normal egt's in 5th gear. the problem is theres some little dork running around where ever hes from saying he beat a modde3d evo. but he did seem like he had a larger turbo. a stock turboed dsm would have never been able to do that. anyways, if you hear a red eclipse talking smack about beating an evo... dog on him, and tell him you will race him for $100. he will most likely bite.

Plus you were down about 20whp or so with the A/C on. Definitely makes a huge difference in spool up, and the overall feel of the car.

Well, good news is you had a TON of extra weight in the car.. the bad news is the A/C Compressor automaticaly disengages when you go into open loop so don't sweat running your A/C.. It only sucks getting off the line at a slow roll if your driving in traffic... now that really bites..

I wouldn't sweat it though, first you were playing around without downshifting, you were running your A/C and trying to accelerate where your not making a huge amount of power plus your hauling people and luggage while trying to haul a**...

I had a run with a GTI VR6 a while back, no badges, simple clean, a sleeper if you will. We stopped at a light and we decided to have a run. I had 4 people in my car as well. I took off having about a 2 car lead on him till about 4th gear. We were going pretty fast and he flew by me in 5th gear. He was alone. We stopped down the road and my friends and i started chatting. All i noticed was an exhaust and a a REALLY big NOS bottle in the trunk ( he wouldn't pop the hood). He didn't tell me much but he said he had about 230-240 WHP. All i have is the BR air filter pretty much stock on my end. Im guessing i have about 230ish WHP also, never checked. Pretty close match till the juice kicks in He was a really cool guy and does all his own work. He told me he had a run with an EVO before and smoke a blue one. Just gotta remember not everyone is out to race for fun, some prefer to humiliate and bash on every one. Maybe you'll see him again and blow by him lol. Don't worry much about it.

don't race next time. Just race stock civics and geos from now on. You'll always win.

Oh and drive drunk. That always helps.

I need to rent a ****. Got a number?

According to Motortrend the A/C uses 5-8 hp.

yea ive heard like 10hp or so. you can definetly feel the loss (at least in my RSX). the car sounds different, its sluggish when changing lanes, and the car is more likely to "bogg" when going from a dead stop. u have to hold the clutch a lil longer as if starting in 2nd gear. i rarely use my A/C. i prefere the windows open driving. but if my girls in the car, or old people lol i gotta use A/C...and in that case i just turn it off at stop lights or before i change lanes if i really need the extra power. lol

The AC does not shut off and I have seen it on the dyno. Ask Dyno4Mance about it. It losses about 15WHP with the AC on and also Shiv did this same test.
