Engine & #4 Piston
what is this thing with water on the intake. I thought that unless the intake was bury in water you should be okay. A little water on the take should not cost this much problem, not sure about turbo car though. Why the heck did MIT leave the hood open then.
I recall AEM did a test on their bypass valve where they submerge the intake into water on the NSX. Nothing happen.

SKKILLA, I will spend a few moments answering your question briefly. For more information search here or on nasioc.com -- as I said their WRX has the exact same problem.
NO a reflash or other tuning will not resolve the MAF misread caused by a cone filter. Like SR20 said, it's the fluctuation not the increased flow.

The dude had his car with stock everything when he went trough the water.
THe dude got the intake and BOV AFTER this situation happened.
Why do you people keep thinking that the water was injested because of the AEM intake

yeah but doesnt the mass air have the honeycomb to correct the passage of the airflow???....i mean if thats there to str8en out the airflow...then the only thing were looking at is the increased velocity going through the mass and maxing it out in refrence to its set parameters from the ecu .....but if the flash has increased the ecu's parameters from factory settings shouldnt the mass now be able to read the increased velocity with out freaking out ??? im no expert but isnt that the theory???
I knopw this topic has been beat to hell but no real answer has been ever brought up except going with a stand alone or going back to the stock intake boot......plus ive had my car on a wide band with the AEM intake and the flash and i have not had any lean conditions ....ive been at 11.0 to 11.4 afr through out the whole rpm range..i was just fine tunning it to lean her out a bit....can any vendors chime in???

well it was driver error that caused his damages.....no offense but things could have been done to avoid that but anyways thats why there is always car insurance to pay for damages because in life **** HAPPENS......but w/e by the way sorry im not trying to steal your thread its just that a interesting topic popped up about your aem intake....that should be on engine/turbo/drivetrain anyways......
The Evo's MAS is so awesome, that you can make 400whp with the MAS still on da car... No litte intake is gonna trip up the EVO's MAS...
Tip of the day: Don't go haulin *** through any puddles or think your car is a rally car... It'll break...

Sorry to kick you while you are down, but now I know not to go into puddles. I love doing that in my 3000GT VR4 and I have blitz steel cone filter =(
The worst was getting splashed with water into the car. I like to drive with the windows down even when it's raining cats, dogs, and cows.

Thats a one in a million chance sucking in water like that with the factory air box, but obviously the odds were not in your favor that day. Ditch the AEM, it causes MAF misreadings and higher intake temps. A worthless mod to say the least, as are most open element intakes for the EVO.
<Flame suite on>
IMO, there is no doubt the water ingestion caused your damage. Therefore it should be an insurance claim rather than a warantee fix, but if the dealer is gonna fix it more power to you. It'll keep your rates down.
