Who has to do the estimate? You can always get a freind to estimate the repair to cost a lot more in order to get it totaled. Or just go to some fancy place...

yes both airbags deployed. and yes because the white van was cited with failure to yeild to on-coming traffic, his insurance is now working on it, there have been no estimates, but they are talking about total loss becuase of air-bag deployment.

At this point, i am in the middle after discussing this with my wife, either way they go i will accept it as long as it is reasonable.

However if they total it, what about salvage? will they let me salvage it? as i just put on a new buschur 440 kit, and it only has like 400 miles on it if that...

you can definitely get out the aftermarket stuff you put in... My wife's old car had a bunch of stereo stuff in it, and when I went to clean out the car at the tow yard, I just took my tools with me.

Also, I hate to be a circling buzzard, Aaron, but, if you are going to get rid of it, can I have (buy) your in-dash guage setup? As I mentioned to you before, I love that style...

I really doubt that its totalled. However like was said before the body shop is going to have to take the car apart and check everything out. As far as the unibody being bent or damaged that actually can be easily pulled out straight. As a matter of fact a good "rack" can pull the car straighter than OEM. This is the same type damage that totalled my Eclipse, but my Eclipse was worth about 9k and this Evo is worth about 20k. The damage on my Eclipse came out to 5k. I should hope that your car is not totalled, because you cant put a price on love.

Keep in mind, Insurance companys would rather total it than repair it.

^^ That's not true at all. I was in a really bad wreck (both airbags deployed) and they fixed it. Even worse, they estimated the damage at like 73% and said they would rather fix it. The car was great once they finished it though. Upon final inspection of the billing informatin to the insurance company the repairs did in reality go above 75%; but it was still fixed. No, they would not rather total it.

Good luck man! Sux that happned to you!! BTW, how's you neck and back feeling?

it depends if both the airbags are deployed and if fluids are coming out of the engine bay.

That's how insurance company determines what's totalled or not, since airbag costs a ton and the damage must be severe if both the airbags are deployed.

Not really, they make the estimate looking at all the visible damage and caculating the cost of all the parts as well as the labor. The estimating tools are computerized and include everything up to the cost of fluids and disposal fees for the waste.
Sure, if the airbags are deployed, they must be added to the cost of the rplacement parts, but still, the cost of parts, labor and miscellaneous must exceed a certain cost that will result in a higher cost to the ins. co. to pay than to replace the vehicle (which by the way, they determine the cost).
Asking the people in this forum for their opinion is fine but totally useless for any purpose other than recreational. Nobody can determine wether the car is totalled or not from looking at a couple of photographs.. BTW, it sure as hell does not look totalled to me....

Ouch man! I can say that I've seen an Evo with similiar damage cost about 14K to repair without counting the airbags. Good Luck.

Ow! My accident was very similar, except my drivers side light was gone aswell as my drivers side fender. Did you (or can you) pop the hood to check the core support? If thats bent or broken you might have yourself a totaled evo.
