What's the verdict on the Infinity sound system?
I love my Infinity interior speakers. The sub is very good for mid level volume. Too much and you get distortion. All I did was swap out the stock head unit for an Alpine and I'm pretty happy.

Hey to each his own.. as for stock stereo's the bose system in our H2 is fine.. If your someone who basses it then of course its not for you. But for stock stereo's its decent... I'm not going to say its the best out there but i'm sure not goign to call it horrible... when you have heard horrible you learn to respect the other stuff out there... Seriously if you think the '03 system sucks go sit your happy @$$'s in a F-250 Ford truck.. fully loaded with the upgraded sound and it still sounds like crap... truck is only a few days old and i'm already looking for speakers becasue its just unbearable.

I have an 04 Evo w/the upgraded INFINITY sound system.
It sounds great, but the stock headunit is fugly. I have a pioneer deck layin around that plays MP3's and stuff. I just wanted to know, from those that might have changed out their decks. Does the stock headunit have rca's in the back? Or will i have to do some wiring to hook up my pioneer deck to the infinity system?
Thanks!

no, they aren't. the infinity system has 2 external amps. one that's under the drivers seat that powers the main speakers, and one in the sub enclosure for the sub.
personally, it is a decent system, and i've done quite a few aftermarket. i'd still replace it, but for most people it will get the job done.
oh, and bose systems aren't as great as everyone thinks they are. don't get me wrong, bose makes good stuff, but not for car audio.

Ok, The stereo sounds alright at moderate volume levels, but there are definitely problems in the factory configuration.
#1. The door speakers are not acoustically matched to the car, if your listening to any rap, they rattle and sound like crap. You will end up fading rear (-3) to compensate and that blows your imaging all to hell.
#2. The sub should be louder, its got decent enclosure but ends up sounding like an 8in Bazooka tube from 1992. It should also have and independent sub control or at least a gain instead of just being part of the Bass +/-
#3. The amps look like smaller versions of Alpine 3522's. Sad.
I've made some improvements:
Bass blockers, 50hz and lower on front speakers, you don't need the high end stuff, $20 for a pair. Place in-line on the wire that is solid color, and not the one with the black strip. (not 100% sure on this, in the past the solid color has been the positive wire but there was no indication on the speaker, harness, or funky coupler)
Dynamat Extreme directly behind door speakers, 40$ for a small roll, not sure how much I got but it was not very much, find it on Internet, Ultimate electronics will rape you.
Rubber cement any contact points where plastic meets plastic around speakers in doors
I'm going to take the driver seat out and take a look a the amp situation, I have stuff rotting in my closet that I'm sure is an improvement.
