The 03 evo sound is ok for stock. I dropped in an excelon head unit and tweaked as much of the crap as i could and it sounds half-way decent. My 95 gp, now that was a pretty nice system, stock.

The upgraded SSL sound system in the 05 is really nice, the subwoofer is just loud enough to not be obnoxious. I *WILL* be getting a new head unit to connect an iPod, but if I wasn't I would be completely satisfied with mine.

ALL THE INFINITY SYSTEM IS: is an amp... The speakers are still $hit paper woofers. It is better to just buy an amp and some nicer speakers MB Quart or JL or Polk and your system will sound great...

It's sounds pretty good, I have a Kenwood Amp and I'd like to install it but, not sure how to do it and keep the sub? The amp is a 4 channel, any suggestions?

Wish I knew someone with the premium system, so I could compare it to my stock speakers and aftermarket head unit. Gonna have to get out to one of these meets one day.

Before I bought my '05, it was down to the car I bought, and a '04 tarmac SSL. I played with the sound system a bit. The extra bass was nice, but other than that it sounded exactly the same. My sebring had much better sound clarity and imaging at higher volumes. Obviously the sound system and other feautes didnt persuade me to buy the 04. I was gonna go aftermarket anyway. Ill take my soon-to-be Alpine/CDT/Rockford setup anyday over the stock premium setup.

And with my alpine deck in I do hear the mismatched front speakers. Its annoying. No matter how much you play with the balance and fade, it WONT sound right. Gotta get these CDTs in soon....

Edit: BTW I am a bit more of an audiophile than the average consumer I think...so take my comments with a grain of salt.

When I was thinking of getting the SSL package I listed to what the system sounded like for about 5 min and came to the conclusion that there is a MINIMAL difference between stock and the upgrade with woofer..The sub is more of a mid bass enhancer, no lows at all.I traded an 03.5 mazdaspeed protege and that system was a beeelion times better..

Ive yet to hear the stock 140 or 160 watt. I have the 315 Infinity and I think its a good overall sound system. Its not crazy but its above average considering most car stereos. I think the new Eclipse 06 sound system shoudl be pretty nuts. Its something like 650-watt Rocksford Forsgate!!!!

Two words: Mark Levinson

You would be hard pressed to find someone who has heard the system to disagree that its not the best stock system in any car out there.

Im glad we dont have Bose, they really arent that good, the cones they use for their home theater speakers are made from cheap *** plastic and i had them in my 91 Z and they are powered each by their own amps so if a speaker blows you have to replace both speaker and amp and install to getting to them is a pain in the ***.

bose is garbage. my mothers 1st benz had the bose in it and it wasnt worth listenign to(e320) the second one she had (e500 new body style) had a harmon kardon system in it which was amazing. bt still nto as good as the mark levinson system in lexus. by the way my mom has a xkr now and the alpine system in it is terrible too. moral of the story- just because it says bose or alpine doesnt mean sh*t.
also, ssl package and at first i thtought the stereo was decent but at 2400 miles its starting to wear on me pretty quickly... time to upgrade
