Unhappy Lost control in the rain tonight....

Hey, all....

I messed up tonight. It had been raining all night. I was passing my friend around a turn at around 80 or 90 (I know, stupid) and lost control. My friend said I did 3 and a half complete 360's. Remember, this was at serious speed. I wish I had it on video tape. My friend said it was the craziest thing he had ever seen. Anyways, I hit the curb *** first. I was about 2 inches away from hitting a fire hydrant. I busted 2 tires and bent a rim. That's the only damage I can see. I'm gonna have it towed tommorow. Does anybody have a wheel and a couple tires for sale? Thanks

Fred

yeah, in the rain you may want to keep it around 70 on turns!

man i had a tire blow in my eclipse gsx and it sent me spinin into a curb and i was only doin about 50 and it bent the **** outta everything! i hit the curb with my driver side rear tire and then when the pass side rear tire hit it threw the car agian and smashed the pass side front tire. w/o rims and tires it was like 2g's.cradle, all control arms ect ect. i would have it checked out by a mechanic. luckily my brother is an ase certified mech. so he helped me w/ all the labor. good luck bro

Did the exact same thing (dry tarmac though) in my miata last year. 2 360's and *** first into a curb. Destroyed 3 tires, 2 rims, 2 lower control arms, 1 upper control arm, 1 rear spindle... School of hard knocks is rough!

You people kill me. You remind me of the morons here in GA that actually speed up when the rain first starts to come down like they are trying to outrun it. AWD or not, speeding in the rain is dum. Talking a curve at 80 to 90 mph in the rain is moronic.

depends on the curve Evo's are meant to handle well in rain and shine granted it doesn't do quite as well in the rain but it still out performs most cars even if its raining like crazy

I also agree drifting sounds better and you did get very lucky btw. Rims and tires are cheap compared to fenders and frame.

I give props to RSGuy for admitting he lost control in the rain in opposed to drying to drift... while drifting does sound better, awd cars are made to grip, and although possible, drifting in an awd vehicle usually result in slower cornering times... which means that telling people he was trying to drift in an evo would actually sound more stupid... at least he was honest and admits that he should not had tried to turn at 90mph... for that, I really hope that 2 new tires and a new rim is all u have to pay for..

well... i'd have to see this turn and judge what the level of safe speed is and then reevaluate what that safe speed would be in the rain, if it's not on the freeway (which it really doens't sound like because of the curb) it doesn't sound like a good prognosis. so do you regularly take this turn at 90 in the dry?

i guess the more you speed up the tuffer the consequences. but i don't think it's a bad thing to take corners fast in your evo even if it is raining. you watch best motoring? they do it all the time, granted they are on a track which is why i would say it's best to practice this kind of thing. first on dry, learning the turn and then brinnging yourself up to speed and then try your nuts with wet.

wow you got lucky, glad to hear you are ok and hope everything goes well. Anyway, drifting will slow you down in any car, no matter fwd, rwd or awd. it might be the most impressive way to get around corner but definitely no the fastest way. Next time, dont lift in the corner hahah.

I dont care what tires or type of car you have...just slow down if it starts raining on the road. No need to put yourself, your car and others at risk for a few seconds of fun. Save the high speed rain drifting, racing, etc.. for a race track.
