Evolution or Revolution?
I don't really get the rant either - but the reason the magazines and aftermarket are so hot on the car is for the simple reason that there's no better all-around performance buy for the money, and that the turbo 4G63 is a proven platform for power. You should not at all be surprised about the availablity of aftermarket goodies for the car, because it's been around forever. Evo number 8, remember? I bought the EVO because after test driving a stinkload of cars in the 20K-30K range there was simply nothing that compared it performance or value wise. The car is an absolute drivers car and yes, I put a bag of groceries in it pretty regularly. I'm a month away from being 40 - so there.

OK I changed my favor, please watch Dennis Miller to learn how to rant...normally you make a point in a rant...and witty esoteric references, similes, and metaphors don't hurt either...

Please make a point! You sound like my 5 year old daughter meandering through words for the sake of hearing her voice.
I agree with you, and I think other people would too if you learned how to use paragraphs... right now you just sound kind of ranting and crazy... all those words all mashed together.
What is your point? I have owned a prelude, RX-7 turbo, 3000 VR-4 all of which were standards and have put down a deposit on a Mr. I have spent a lot of time in a 03 evo because my friend bought the first evo in alabama. I'm 27 work full time attend University of South Alabama for Computer engineering. By the way i'm married too (if that matters).
Ps you just sound lmad because your mommy will not let you have one!

okay, i'm 25, have owned 3 other cars (toyota truck, and 2 subarus), and therefore i believe that i' qualified to say that the evo IS the best thing since sliced bagels.
still searching for a point though.... just out of curiosity, do you [engineer] own an evo?

no...considering though, just trying to find out what kind of crowd is the Evo crowd. Hostile I guess, jk. I guess is as expected w/ my comments. Not trying to disrespect anyone, but mod and Evo sounds like F&F.
I tried to find a VR-4, you were right it took me almost a minute to find one within 20 miles of where I live, really hard:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...or=&cardist=20
And as for an RX-7, lemme see...
oh I found one within 16 miles of where I live:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...or=&cardist=16
Gee that was so difficult...Both around $20K asking price...

I'm 19, I'm pretty young guy, and I really wanted an evo. I read about it, test drove it, basically dreamed about it. I wanted it so bad, that for 6 months I was saving paycheck at a time just for a down payment. I drove a 92 civic hatchback for about a year and a half, and it was a good, reliable car. somehow it had only 18,000 miles on it when I got it. 18,000 miles for a 11 year old car(at the time of purchase) is crazy. It was slow, didn't have power steering, locks, wintows or ac. It was still a great car though. Dependable, got me where I needed to go, great on gas, almost like new, inside an out. I sold it for 3,500 and combined that with my 5,000 that I saved up, went to the dealer and well, long story short, I'm paying 450 a month for the next 6 years (financing sucks). But I can afford it..It all depends on what you want out of the car. Nobody NEEDS and evo, we just want it. You have to establish a need from a want. If everyone bought what they only needed then you'd see nothing but kias, hondas and toyota family cars driving around buying bread an water from the store, to feed their kids in their one room house with no tv, radio, newspaper or anything.
Ok, maybe I'm also just ranting on without a real point here, all I'm saying is that alot of people want things, and even if they don't need it, they will get it. A want and a need are completely opposite.

As far as mods go, you obviously don't know much about the strength and versatility of the 2.0L motor that comes in the EVO so let me hit on some points for you:
-FORGED internals (crank, rods, and pistons) with a cast iron block
-Sodium filled exhaust valves
-Hollow camshafts
-Able to hold over 500 hp with stock internals + bolt-ons and cams, and yes RELIABLY if done right.
As for why people mod their cars, mycar is stock except for a boost controller & panel filter, and I can honestly say I miss the power of my old eclipse on the straights, as well as some freeway driving. It's not as powerful as it should be. That's why people mod their cars.
PS The only mustang that can hang with the EVO stock for stock is the supercharged SVT Cobra, as it eats GTs and Bullets for lunch. As for a real track, none of them can hold a candle to the EVO.
If you wish to argue ANY of my points, please go do some actual research, read some magazines, and make an intelligent counterpoint. Because if you call me just a young whippersnapper I'm just going to make fun of you for wearing depends.
