Evolution or Revolution?
I wanted a spirited daily driver that the whole family could ride in every day. Funny thing is, my 12 year old had to fit in the back seat. I'm 6'1" 250lbs, so you can bet your *** the WRX was ruled out in a heart beat. The eight year old is not far behind him. The oldest kid is bigger than most enthusiasts here. I like the car... a lot. In fact, I like it so much that it could not only serve as a weekend ride.
What is this guys point? I want MY three minutes back! I like fit women, any race, size, color, or political party. Except redheads, they're crazy I've found. BATSHlT crazy I tell you.

the thing with the car is:
it's the feeling you get through twisties, and the moment boost kicks in, hell, it's the feeling you get when you sit down in the morning to warm 'er up.
that's what's awesome about the car, the physical pleasure you get from pushing it even a little. if you ONLY drive the car to and from work, then you're going to regret its purchase REAL FAST. people love the car because they drive it. maybe not all on a track, but take it to the mountains, or canyons or hills whatever, it's beautiful.

lol i skipped through most of this, but somewhere inside me i want to agree with you engineer, i was passed on from my moms daily driver commuter nissan 200sx, i babied the car, well as much as i could, i learned to drive with that and i did my crazy stunts in that and what not, she gave it to me forcefully and it was i who ruined it into the ground... =-(
then it was time for a new car, i have always been a fan of the wrc and rally cars, and the closest avilable was the subaru impreza wrx, at the time there was only rumors of the lanevo, but thats besides the point. it was the realization that i bought my OWN car and learned to respect others as well as myself..... well i bought my first car on nov 2002, man was i surprised by the sheer power the car had, the first time the car didnt shake while going 80mph, i was thrilled that it was smooth, at the time i was 20, unfortunatly i didnt have the car too long because of an accident, it wasnt till a couple months later i ended up with my current car in its current state of tune ;-)
anyhow i have learned a slew of information about cars in general as well as my two favorite cars the subaru impreza and the lancer evo, and i respect all performance cars, but what i learned throughout this whole thing by far is that the driver is what gives the car its soul, and to a degree 90% of the population who own our cars do not have it. the reason i agree with engineer is that a lot of the people who own these cars are just there to flash it and be part of the cool crowd, yet theres nothing wrong with having a big head, but this big head isnt the soul of our cars, all i hear and see is people trying to one off eachother on the street, to prove what you put more money into your car? i can give a rats *** about that. but if you can out drive me or even keep up with me at a auto-x or real roadcourse(im not the greatest but im learning) then ill give you respect because the main purpose of our cars is to achieve its full potential, the only way for this to happen is to get out there and learn and have fun, be competitive with one another on a legal course, not on a street light.
having a punk kid rev me on a street isnt going to prove anything to me other then your driving a glorified family sedan and your just frontin like no other, at the end of the day its just some immature punk who is likely to wrap a perfectly well rounded machine into a tree.
age isnt much of a focus it should be maturity level, age and maturity level go hand in hand of course, but some can beg to differ ive seen 25-40 year olds act with the maturity level of a 10 year old while i've seen young guys going the right track at the age of 16 (of course these kids dont even have cars yet... LOL, but the knowledge they possess is phenominal, check them out on daddy's kart, and you'll be surprised how well they do )
i suppose my point is....is that not many people quite understand the purpose and the value of these kind of cars and take it for granted, and i get annoyed when i see people who know nothing of the car, its roots, or its potential, as some may be able to tell im very pro driver and i do attend many auto-x, track events.... as well as in the process in attending either a skip barber or bondurant drivers\race school....

Who cares. This is a waste of server space. Evo owners buy the EVO because they can. Evo owners mod the car to hell and put out a 10000000000000000 hp because they want to. They don't have to drive camrys and accords because they are lucky. Yea...I know, life sucks when things aren't fair for everyone. Damn those kids with EVO making more money than you.

It's called a racetrack.
And, yes, I like soup also.

Anyway, I have owned a few
cars in my day. My first "real car" was an Eclipse GST that I converted to a GSX with a gazillion mods. I loved it but it ended up being a drag car. Not good for a 28 year old to be driving around with a baby. Anyway, I was stilled inspired by the performance and the availabilty of aftermarket parts to make this EVO scream. It does everything better than an eclipse gsx out of the box. Yes you sacrifice luxury but I want performance but dont want to pay 55K for an M3. I can spend the extra dough on go fast parts and spank the M3's. My payments are only $275/month. Leaves me planty of money to do upgrades when I want to. If I put the same money down on an M3, I may still have payments of appx $700/month. Not much room to play considering I have another car that I pay $605/month.
My .02
I bought my Evo because I COULD. I read about it years ago when it was considered one of the best cars not available in the US. My last car conveniently crapped out soon after the 2003 release and the Evo was the best car out there.
I don't go to the track, I don't plan to mod my car and I am unfazed by ricers. I enjoy knowing that I own one of the few Evos in Illinois and the only yellow one in the city of Chicago.
Owning an Evo does not mean I must drive it at it's limit or mod like crazy. I like knowing that all this performance is available at a moments notice. It's all about the little things:
1) Watching heads turn to look at my one year old un-modded car. How many people driving a Z-car or an SRT-4 still get noticed?
2) Knowing that a tap of the gas pedal keeps some jackass from cutting in front of me.
3) The heat extractor is cool. EVERY other hood modification is either a hood scoop or a fake hood scoop.
I know I won't own this car forever and I am enjoying this time while I have it. The Evo is a tough act to follow and I will be really picky about my next car.
This is a positive rant with a point (I hope).
