Evolution or Revolution?

Here goes my rant. The Lancer Evolution was originally a rally car and all the Evolutions that went on sale as street legal are inspired from them, therefore the rally heratige. Let me first say it is probably the by far the best car performance for the buck, but do we really need to go 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. Also how many of us can pull off that feat on a consistent basis without worrying about the tranny, clutch, etc... How many V8 Mustang, Vette, or whatever Domestic car do Evo owners have to beat to be satisfied? There are other car in this price range that are import sort of in the Evo's catagory, but none of them except the STI are close in terms of perfomance. Perfomance, Performance, Performance. Is this what the Evo's all about? Maybe...but after going thru the board for a while now, I noticed alot of owners are pretty young, meaning below 30. Not having a Full time job because still in College or High School, not saying all, but a good chunk. No doubt in my mind the Evo is a fantastic car, no doubt what so ever, but how many owners here have ever own a standard car in their life before the Evo, or know how to drive a standard before owning a Evo for that matter. My point here is how do you know the Evo is the best thing since bread if you never had a bagel? Is it because Sports Compact Car magzine or Road and Track or whatever magazine named it car of the year? I know I hear I tested drived the WRX, RX8, etc..., but driving a car for 30 minutes to me don't really say that much, most dealers would problably frowned if you tried to push the car a little. My first car was a 93 Camry, then a 99 Accord. I was saying to myself they should be around the samething, you know a 4 door family sedan, but the more and more I drove the Accord I noticed it is nothing like the Camry. The Camry has much smoother steering in my opinion as opposed to the accord where I felt is the steering is dancing everywhere. Running out of space to rant...

I do beleive that is what the Evo is for. Performance. Why would you buy it to haul kids and groceries around? I wouldn't spend 30K on a grocery getter. So what if most of the people are youngins. They probably enjoy it just as much as you. I would'nt mind putting my kid in an evo for ONE of his first cars. (not their first but one of them) I think it's a damn good car for a just startting off car enthusiast. This is just my opinion though.

So what exactly is this about? I'm not quite getting the point of all this. Is it about kids driving EVO's or is it about the EVO's performance? I don't really get what you're trying to say.

As far as young people with EVO's, how they pay for them is their business, and if they wreck them, so be it. It's probably for the best to teach them a lesson. But remember that not every teenager is irresponsible. And that maybe some actually can handle the EVO and actually deserve it.

.......ok. As for the after market accessories, it is SICK. For a two year car to have a strong aftermarket its insane. Every other import magazine has at least one Evo artical a month. Why is that? I'm sure there are more Eclipse, integra, civic, jetta, even 350 Z owners out there but why are we all obsessed with this car? Vishnu stage "Sub Zero", "Signature stage one", "Buschur stage 4". 300-400 horsepower is mighty impressive... but ultimately why? Is this the in thing for Evo owners, it is proven I believe in SCC mag that a 3.3 Evo w/ 400+ hp is not really that much faster than a stock. I believe it was like 2 or 3 sec. over a stock rs. 2 or 3 sec for 3000 or 10000 dollars here. Most of us are not professional drivers with sponserships here...so why? Evo is not a true Dragster like a Mustang , not a Drift machine like RX7 or even 350 Z. It is a rally car with phenominal handling...why all the power? How many of us can say "I'm going rallying this weekend how about you?" I doubt most of us have the financial funds to run a rally race. Auto cross problably. Out of all the members on this forum how many percent actually competed in time trial or race events? I'm sure there are many I'm sure, but I would say majority does not...because they have too much mods! Owners with so much mods and HP, can they really control such a monster? A stock Evo is tuned by Mitsu., after millions of dollars , can someone with limited resouce in a tuning shop give you optima performance on your Evo? They say its tuned for optima performance (hp) but in reality how much a traded of is it for drivability or reliabity? Is it really worth all that to beat that Mustang?

I think people just buy the stock car, because it's quick and it's one of the better performing out there. When they mod, they want to take what they have, and make it quicker and better performing. So if the question is why go faster, or why mod, or whatever, then you might as well tell Ferrari to stop building fast cars and tell the aftermarket industry for every car to shut down. It's just simply that people want to go fast. And faster, and faster.

And 2 to 3 seconds is a lot of time in any matter of a timed race. 1/4 mile, road race, anything.

And you're not really sacrificing much drivability with mods, untill you get into the heavy stuff. But those people are competing. Those people are the ones to whom it is considered "necessary" or "worth it."

I'm 21 and the Evo is my 5th car already. I work full time and attend college part time. When I bought the car I got to test drive it pushing the car to the limits thank you Milwaukee dealership . I have driven very fast cars in the past for example my best friends high 10 second Eclipse. I think I speak for most people here when I say most of us know what we want in cars and have driven numerous performance cars in the past. The Evo is better in my eyes than many cars under $50,000 and even higher. Then again I like the car for the handling and looks not the leather and climate controls.

My reason for mods is because I will get sick of any car no matter what. When I add mods it's like a new car again so it keep me happy. And for what I pay per month I need to be happy.

I may be wrong when I say this, but I think the people here are true enthusiast compared to Ferrari owners.

Gee, a mutstang owner.
If I only wanted straight-line quick, I would have bought a cobra.
If I only wanted economy, I would have bought a honda.
I wanted a 4 door car that wouldn't break the bank for insurance and fuel, that I could drive in the New Jersey winters, that could handle mountain driving well, that if a deer jumped out in front of me I could stop or drive around, that would hand a mutstang gt it's a$$.
My other car

I don't understand this rant either, but I'm 28 and I've owned PLENTY of cars before my EVO...'83 turbo volvo coupe w/ BBS rims, Gatorbacks, Koni adjustables, etc when I was 16...2 BMWS (when I lived in germany, when i was 19 through 21 years old...don't tell me teenagers can't drive; I drove 220 km/h every time I hit the autobahn...unless there was a Stau or I hit a restricted part...Also, I never put winter tires on the things, so when the snow fell in the winter & didn't melt in the spring, I drifted around every corner in somewhat powerful RWD cars w/ summer tires...),'96 Eclipse GST pumped up, 2000 Civic Coupe ex w/ performance upgrades, etc. Not to mention I'm a member of the Cascade SCC, done driving schools, track days, auto-x, etc...So don't try to come off high & mighty because you are over 30 because I know a 14 year old that will smoke your *** on the track lol.

As for test driving other cars, that's not entirely true...I drove a Z06, SVT Cobra, and SS Camaro...and in each I could tell that I was driving a big America Tank and not a nimple purpose-built performance car. I drove an S2000 and could tell I HATED waiting for the power taking my first onramp, and it had a little too much body roll for my taste...

Oh and what was your point again? Oh yeah, you are bitter and like to watch yourself type...please do us all a favor and throw your keyboard out the window and hang out with your friends in the retirement home...damn look at her...are those real?...yeah those are her REAL TEETH I'm in heaven...

OK I changed my favor, please watch Dennis Miller to learn how to rant...normally you make a point in a rant...and witty esoteric references, similes, and metaphors don't hurt either...
