I agree.....

The celica is so good that toyota discontinued it.
I heard that there won't be the celeca for 2006, but after that (2007) it will be turbocharge and possibly AWD. Producing somewhere between 230 hp.

Mitsubishi may be in dire straights financially, however they are not going to sit back and idly kill off:
a) a very strong market
b) a car that is the "flagship" for their brand
That would be commercial suicide

Amen! When I saw that, I was like wtf.
Glad I wasn't the only one who reacted like that.
But you know what really PMO?
I've been waiting so long for a good performance car like the evo, (the legendary evo) allot of you dreamed about it before it came over. The first time I laid eyes on it was in Jackie Chan's (Who Am I) When I uttered those words (what the hell is that) finally we get it and now every one else wants to make a car just like it.
i.e.
Mazda speed
Dodge Neon (that might come w/ all wheel drive by next year)
What's next, an all wheel drive turbo geo metro?
COPY CAT, SORRY *** FAT SOB'S THEY CAN ALL KISS MY, ooh mini trucking magazine.
Should I trade in my Evo for a Celica?
That is a very interesting question.
What I find far more interesting (after reading this entire idiotic thread), is that, with only a few exceptions - none of you can compose a proper sentence.
Stop worrying about your car and get an education, please.
I'm sure there are community colleges in your area where you could take English classes, and you can even take them on-line.
Please, do that instead of making my head hurt with your inane BS.
I'll allow two extra points for those of you who obviously speak english as a second language, but, for the love of God - I know that not all of you are from Southeast Asia.
Love your car; love your country; love your momma - those are all good things.
It's just that - if you're going to post your opinion online - remember the old proverb about coming across as being stupid... sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and seem that way, rather than open your mouth and prove it.

[QUOTE=troutfishin02]Should I trade in my Evo for a Celica?
That is a very interesting question.
I traded my 2001 Celica GTS w/ TRD bodykit for a 2003 Evo and I couldn't be happier. The Celica had no torque and you had to beat the **** outta the thing to keep up. I litterally had an identation in the carpet below the gas pedal from having to mash the thing all the time. With the AC on, forget it, dangerously slow.
Evo has better fit and finish and is a hell of a lot more fun to drive. Evo has a real backseat as well (familyman). Celica has stylin looks, awesome brakes and handling (as does Evo)better gas mileage and was dependable (except for lift bolt defect - which Toyota typically will not fix and if they do fix, they usually screw up your car for life). Celica had good hatchback room for skis and bikes and Evo does not.
Evo idles rougher than Celica, but is alot more fun to drive (IMO), AWD means hopefully better winter traction (NE). Evo seats are amazing compared to Celica, Evo has a 5 sp vs Celica 6 speed. Celica was actually a more pleasant hiway car due to 6 speed, Evo 5 speed means "short legs" which is okay by me given the number of tickets I have gotten over the past 3 years. Both cars suck for getting the ire of the police and any wanna be racers.
Celica will be discontinued in 2006 replaced by the Scion TC

This is the first time I've heard any sort of "official" information in regard to the future of the evo. This is a British mag, I know, but I doubt Mitsu. would make an evo 9 just for the US. Oh well, at least this should increase the re-sale value of the VIII's in years to come.

Sounds kinda fishy to me
It is not possible to comapre the Evo to the Celica. They were never intended to be compared. The Evo is a high-performance, awd, rally-based, street/race car intended for automotive enthusiasts who covet performance above price, looks, and sensibility. The Celica is a slow, fwd, economy-car intended for people that want a new car that don't have a lot of money. It's main selling point according to Toyota is gas mileage exceeding 40 mpg. Mitsubishi doesn't even advertise the evo because they know that the people that want, and love it, us, know more about it then they could fit into an hour long commercial (although we'd still want to watch it). I think that offenses such as comparing an evo to a celica should result in sanctions from the moderator and/or expulsion from the forum. I know opinions are opinions, but lets keep on topic at least.

Just a thought, I know mitsu. just hired the same guy( an irishman, i've forgotten his name) that was largely responsible for Hyundai's increased sales over the past few years, to try to, basically save mitsubishi. Maybe they are going to try some of the same tactics that worked for hyundai, like cheaper cars with an excellant warranty, to try to generate more sales, and possibly send the company in a differant direction. In which case there wouldn't be any reason to dedicate the money and engineering needed to a relativley expensive, low production, specialized car like another evo. Especially considering the shape they are in financially. Just a theory, I guess time will tell, If the follow the same timeframe as in the past, the evo 9 should be out in 2005, right?
