HKS hipower does not fit...
i bought and HKS hipower exhaust from someone on the socalevo.net board. I though everything was cool until i installed it. It droned like crazy at any speed. After a few weeks of headaches from it, i figured i would try to solve it with some kartboy hangars. While i was changing the hangars i found the problem. The resonator on the hks midpipe is about 4 inches to long and it rests against the gas tank heat shield. Thats what was causing the drone.
I put my stock one back on, but im not sure what to do.
First.. Im thinking the exhaust was actuallly for an evo7 not 8. All the hardware fits, and the hangars are in the right place... its just the resonator..its too damn long. can anyone help me out on this one? i would like to sell the exhaust, but im not gonna be an ******* like the guy who sold it to me... if its for an evo 7 im going to sell it as "hks hipower EVO 7 catback". If i cant figure out what model its for my only other choice is to go to a muffler shop and have the resonator removed... but im afraid that will make the catback sound tinny....like a honda
any help is appreciated....

Did you install it correctly with the O2 sensor hole facing the passanger side. Are you using stock cat or HF cat or cat delete. If so, make sure they are correctly installed as well. When I installed my HF cat the whole exhaust raised up until I flip the HF cat the other way then it was ok.

i bought this used.. it did come with the brackets, and i used them..in the correct locations. I am also is using the stock cat, since a high flow cat wont fit on either my stock downpipe or the hks catback (both are less than 3inches).
yes the 02 housing is facing the passenger side,... the midpipe defintly will not connect to the midpipe if you put the midpipe on backwards..
im saying the exhaust fits.... the problem is the resonator on the midpipe is WAY to long (4inches) and it rests against the gas tank heat shield...

everything has been installed correctly... i am thinking the jerk who sold me this, sold me an evo7 hks hipower exhaust.. not and evo 8...
can anyone with an hks hipower measure the length of there resonator (on the midpipe)?
mine is about 18inches... which seems to be about 4 inches to long for the car..
can someone take a measurement for me?
much appreciated!!!!!

I'm not sure but I think the Evo7 doesn't have the second 02 sensors which would mean the exhaust that you have should be the right one.
But to be sure, just drop by a local shop that might carry the exhaust and compare (if you have a shop that sells Evo parts).
Or try to get a picture of the mid pipe from one of the shops on EvoM.

ya sure i'll measure mine right now, i'll even measure the rear section too....
Is your kit a JDM kit or USDM? If its JDM then the rear section needs to be extended slightly, oviously

My resinator measures 19.5 inches from weld to weld
The midsection measures 57 i believe flange to flange if your measuring from the passenger side (short side, as the pipes bends)

my resonator is 18 inches.. maybe mine has the resonator mounted more towards the front of the car..?
can you measure from the cat flange to the start of the resonator.. and the distance from the end of the resonator to the muffler flange?
this is baffling me..
thanks!

ps.. how much clearance do you have between the resonator and the gas tank heat shield?
