Angry Over Pricing to an extreme

Im from the North Jersey area (bin a loooong time since my last post). I stopped by my dealer. They know me there cause my brother bought my sister-inlaw her yellow OZ there. All the salesmen woiuld come out to check out his M5. So I stopped by the other day and asked the guy for the run down for Evo deposits. My man says (dispite previouisly buying a car from them) that it is a "$2000 deposit, but for you $1500 and the car will be going for about $39,000." And the guy was one of the managers. So im like, wait.....isnt it supposed to be 30,000. He like...well, i cant sell the car for that much, i have to pull it up a bit.

F****** 9,000 dealer mark up.

that after taxes will go over $40,000 dollars. Im begining to wonder if I should just get a S4 instead.

I felt like knocking a few teeth out of that guy with the attitude he was giving me. I know that EVOs are incredible cars, but 40Gs for a . MAAAAAAAAAAAAAN...what to do.

wanted to see what your guys take is on this

The dealership I bought my OZ from said they are getting like 3 evo's, and they're going to be auctioned off. But fug a 9k markup, check out the MSRP listing on the site.

That is really sad to hear. Does Mitsubishi really want dealers to do that? Can they allow such chaos?

If my dealer marks it up even half that, I will know better to go elsewhere and not buy a Mitsubishi.

Dealerships decide the prices, not MMC. If the dealership wants to make a billion dollar profit per car they can try to sell them at MRSP + $1,000,000,000. If they want to sell them for $2.00 they can sell them for $2.00. Mitsubishi will still have to be paid the same amount, but I doubt they care whether it comes from the customer or the dealership.

maybe we should be getting some sort of letter together that all of us Evo8 buyers can get together and see if Mitsubishi is willing to help us out? we represent a very important demographic to Mitsubishi - word of mouth in an entheusist community like this is very, very important. I know Mitsubishi would not be happy if dealers are trying to steal $10k from us, they car buying community - because that is exactly what they are doing. We have a stong voice here, maybe we should use it....

Hobie is correct, Mitsu cannot overprice the car in anyway, nor can they regulate pricing at dealerships. Mercedes is under investigation for this exact same thing. It would be called "eliminating the competition" amongst dealers hence controlling the market. I don't know about you guys, but im going for the VII because the way these dealers are treating the pricing on these VIII's is insane and out-right in-just. Good choice with the S4 though, i love mine but the mods are super expensive

Price Gauging occurs everywhere. Lots of Potential Nissan 350Z owners are going through the same thing right now. Its hard to find one for less than $40K, when the MSRP of the car is $25-34K. Dealers can do it if they want to. They get the car for an invoice price, and can sell it for an MSRP, Manafacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price. If they wanna make $12K on the car they can do it. I am sure its looked down upon...but all you can really do is to find an honest dealer.

There are lots of Nissan dealers in sothern cali are selling the Z at MSRP right now, you just need to look around. I'm sure if you look around for more Mitsu dealers in your area, you'll find some that will be selling the Evo at MSRP too.

Arrow of course

we all want to have an Evo as soon as the car is available, but the price will come down if you wait for a while. That's what I plan to do, since I'm not exactly loaded anyway.

How can you make that comment about a car that's 1) not even out and 2) Has no official pricing in the first place?

Dealerships are still willing to secure deals whether the car's available at present or not. If you have enough money and can get a refundable deposit at or below MSRP I don't see what in the world you have to lose.

That's a little too steep for my blood, I have never bought a car for even MSRP.... but paying 9,000 over that is just retarded.

Right now used 350Zs are going for more then new ones in the Minneapolis area. If you planned ahead with the Z, you would be getting on at MSRP - Nissan has put the fear of god in their dealerships, if they gouge, they get bumped to the *** end of the list for more shipments of Zs. The Z, like the Boxster, WRX, Z06 and almost every other desireable car (including the forthcoming Evo) will be a hot commodity for quite a while after release, so dealers are deciding that it isn't in their best interset to gauge now, and hurt themselves in future sales of Zs. It would be great if Mitsubishi took on such a proactive role like Nissan has done.
