i grounded pins #1 and #4 and this worked for me on my 04 USDM 8. you have to have the key in the ignition but not on. key in the OFF position, i repeat. and then press the hazard 6 times in 10 seconds, doors will unlock and lock. then press the lock button on the remote twice and it should work.

Wow, this worked for me. Ive bought my car and the remote was not working. Ive used the key for a few months and stumbled up on this thread. Now I enjoy keyless entry. Btw- doors do not have to be closed.

Thanks for this - I bought a car with no remote, then bought a cheap remote from http://www.keylessentryonline.com/ and followed the instructions here. I just followed this advice:
And now... remote!
You can just use a short jumper wire to connect Pin 1 to Pin 4 instead.

you dont have to buy the whole remote, if the case is cracked just buy a different case from ebay, i bought mine for $10 shipped. Swap everything from the old remote to the new case for 1 min. They also send you new buttons too.

I would like to thank Z Lancer Man for posting his key fob programming procedure, here it is again just for reference:
I just used this procedure to program my key fobs on my 06' IX MR with a new ETACS, I've tried the previous methods of just sticking the key into the key cylinder while leaving it in the OFF position however it didn't work for me. I didn't ground pin 1 to the chassis, I connected it to pin 4 which is also ground but in the connector itself while using like someone mentioned before a piece of 18 gauge wire that I got from radioshack a while ago. I was able to do this with the driver's door open.
1) Insert key and turn to first position (ACC)
2) Jump pins 1 and 4 on the OBD-II connector
3) ** Here is the key - immediately after jumping the two pins, press the Hazard Light Switch 6 times within 10 seconds.
4) The doors will lock and unlock, confirming that you are in programming mode
5) Press the Lock button 3 times (once, then two more times) on the first remote to program
6) The doors will lock and unlock again, confirming the successful programming of the remote.
7) Repeat step 5 for all other remotes, up to 4.
8) To exit Programming mode, do one of the following:
a) Turn the key to off
b) Remove the key
c) Remove the jumper wire
d) Do nothing for 1 minute
9) After exiting programming mode, its always a good idea to test out the remote to ensure the doors lock and unlock as commanded.
Note: Once you enter programming mode, all previously programmed remotes will be erased, so be sure to reprogram all the remotes you would like to use, up to 4.
Note: The driver door does not need to be closed.
Note: If a remote is not programmed within 1 minute of the doors locking and unlocking, the car will exit programming mode, and all remotes will remain erased.

My key programming issue was caused by the previous owner in Japan, they had cut a wire which disabled a few JDM remote functions including programming. They also ground out the key lock number off the key so that nobody could copy the key code easily.
