Did anyone happen to notice IF it was very hard to spin one front wheel after installing this unit ? I was tuning one front wheel with the car off the air and it had a lot of resisitance and did not feel "right" I did not have a quaife before so I dont know if this is normal or not ? Thanks
I noticed the same thing after I installed mine. I drove my car around for about 10 miles, then jacked up the front and the wheels turned with normal resistance. I'm guessing the stickiness was caused by the fluid not being fully circulated through the diff yet.

Thanks for this great write-up. I used it successfully yesterday. I'm slow and careful so it took me 12 hours, not including deadtime. I did have to "persuade" the CV axle/inner axle combination back in with a few taps with a hammer.

Particular good tip was the info on creating the small slide hammer. My local dealer didn't even have the factory required slide hammer in their shop tool inventory. Marksae's home built model worked like a charm and the inner axles were easily removed.

Okay, so I wasn't the only one who had that issue. I added a note to the install procedure regarding this. I just gave my axle a few good shoves and it popped in.

do you have to modify th e transfer case to get this to work (i knew you had to do this; i read it when i read about previous installs of lsd's into non lsd evos)? if not, is this a new drop in lsd?

Nope, no modification needed. The quaife is a straight drop-in replacement.

is the quaife lsd the only lsd which will fit into the USDM evo 05'+ transfer case or can other lsd assemblies fit as well?

Since the whole front diff sits inside the diff carrier, no shimming is required. There are no bearings that get pressed onto the diff.

Changing the diff will not affect the end play of the diff carrier inside the transfer case.

Taking my time, I did it in one long day (about 12 hours).

Thanks! Ordered mine and it should be here this Thursday. Hoping to get it installed this weekend (13th/14th) or the following Saturday (20th). I'll be going to a shop on base that has a lift. That should knock some hrs off. Thanks for the great write up though.

MODS: Think this should get a "Sticky."

I'm scared to really test this thing on public roads, so I plan to bring my car to the next auto-x to really test it.

Question:

What class are you running in in AutoX that will allow you to run the front Diff?

I've been running in Street Mod. I'm sure you can run the front LSD in the stock classes since the 04 RS's and all 05s come standard w/ a front LSD.
