Any answer for this?

From the diagrams it indeed looks like there is a shim (thrust washers) inside the diff carrier...doing an install like this without first checking the carrier bearing freeplay (uhhhh hello I would definitely replace the carrier bearings while you are in there since they are probably near death at this point from drag launches) and the thrust bearings of the diff itself seems like a good way to grenade an expensive new diff. You can't simply open your transfer case and just jam a new diff in there and go for gold lol...anyone know the specs of the carrier bearing free play and what the thrust washers should spec out to?

EDIT: yeah I found out that these bearings are really hard to find (like everything else transfer case related) because the xfer case was made by getrag...awesome!

I did the swap this weekend. You can put the diff carrier into a vice, sandwiched between 2 boards of wood. This will allow you to retorque the bolts with a torque wrench.

Do you have to pull the suspension off both sides, and pull both axles out or is it possible to pull just the one side?

You only need to unbolt either the LCA from the hub, or unbolt the shock from the hub, to allow enough room to remove the axles from both sides.

Thanks, thats what I thought, I was sure just taking the shock out would give enough room to pop the drive shaft out. I'm looking at doing this in 2 weeks. I hope it doesn't take me all day, I'd be losing my patience by then.

Go to Harbor Freight if you have one around you. They're discontinuing their 625ft/lb impact wrench, so it's selling for a discount ($69.99?), and then you can easily find a 20% off coupon anywhere. It's overkill for the job, but you don't wanna have to buy another one down the road, for when you have stuck bolts, etc.

Thanks, but unfortunately they do not ship international. I couldn't find the one you mentioned on their site anyway

Cheap ones seem to be rated about 230ft/ib, but I assume that they wouldn't do the job. My compressor is 3hp. If anyone can recommend a torque level I should be looking as a minimum would be great.

Well, guess I'll find out if the 500ft/ib Impact Wrench I bought and my 3hp compressor will do the job. About to start this shortly.

Mine was leaking due to too much oil. My manual said 550ml, but when I put that it, oil came out of the filler hole, but also leaked abit out of the seals. A clean with degreaser and a drive saw no more oil. Taking the filler bolt out I had some oil come out, so its definitely due to too much oil which caused the initial leak.
